Description fanart for the movie Best In Show. I hadn't watched it in a long time and I enjoyed it more than I did when I watched it first - so much that I had to watch it again. and again with commentary. I love that my favourite part in that movie is when the Toy judge goes "MAY I HAVE THE ITALIAN GREYHOUND OVER HERE, PLEASE." I whooped. I admit it. yes both times. >>;

so yeah, I took the opportunity to doodle the doggies and their people the second time I watched it, and I scanned this and had it lying around on my comp before I decided to slap some colour on it. the only parts I really like about this picture are Hubert (the bloodhound, I had to pause the movie so I could study those awesome wrinkles) and the Shih Tzus (eeee Tyrone and Miss Aggie. too cute! <3). I am amused that I drew Hubert coming on to Beatrice, though, in his doofy scenthound way. no idea why.

eh. I want to draw better fanart, and I want to draw all the peoples too. o.o more coming eventually, I hope.

all dogs belong to themselves and their kennels/owners/whoever.

hummm I saw that movie. It was a comedy but I didn't think it was that funny. My mom did though which is strange, she never laughs at movies. Oh well. I like the Poodle best. She's got nice big hair

swift-whippet In reply to happyafghan [2007-10-29 04:36:07 +0000 UTC]

I think it's one of those movies you have to be a certain age to appreciate. I watched it when I was quite young and I didn't find it funny, but when I recently watched it again a few weeks ago I did.

You know one of my favorites things about your work is the expression and character you put into each dog. You draw perfect anatomy, and yet you don't lose that element of spirit and personality. Wow.
The bloodhound looks exceptionally good..I would love to see you do a group picture of some big floppy eared, dewlaped scent hounds!

Jowls are just so stinkin cute! I recently adopted a basset hound...she isn't quite as droopy as the rest of her breed, but nonetheless is the stubbornest little cutie ever.

you know I may well do that. I've been having a lot of fun with jowly dogs lately.

OMG I love that movie! the humour isn`t really like cartoon violence or anything, but I found it hilarious. I love the "get bizzie bee!" part. ah that movie is so good, I like how you captured the characters` personalities in their dogs. awesome anatomy on the breeds, you really captured their traits! i never got the poodle thing...that plumber butt thing was just kinda creepy to me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to Pawnee [2007-10-21 01:25:58 +0000 UTC]

cartoon violence isn't the only way to do humour. if you enjoyed that kind of dry, deadpan humour, you should totally check out Christopher Guest's other movies. they don't have dogs in them, but it's done in the same kind of style. thank you!

forgive me - what poodle plumber-butt thing? o.o

Pawnee In reply to swift-whippet [2007-10-21 15:31:41 +0000 UTC]

in the movie the poodle has that weird hair cut on its butt. its during the TV talk show scene...can`t remember which chapter...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to Pawnee [2007-10-21 16:07:13 +0000 UTC]

that is the poodle's classic continental show clip. it's traditionally to keep the hip joints warm when the dog is retrieving. this was explained during the scene.

"those act as flippers." lawl.

I'v seen this movie a LONG time ago when it first came out and I didn't remember it untill I saw this picture. I can't say it's my fav movie the humor is a little dry for my tast but I love the dogs in the movie and the terrier song

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to KeechakVarg [2007-10-15 21:28:49 +0000 UTC]

the humour is a little dry, and that's why I didn't like it much when I first watched it. but recently I saw it again and thought it was really funny and loved it, so I think the person you are when you watch a movie makes a difference. first time I watched it I was just annoyed that there were no sighthounds in it besides the one borzoi that appears briefly! xD

That's so great! I love their anatomy and their individuality. The snotty expression on the ... uh ... greyhound? They grey one over towards the left, anyway (I fail at identifying dog breeds!) ... anyway, it's especially appealing.

swift-whippet In reply to CapnFlynn [2007-10-15 18:50:25 +0000 UTC]

LOL, everyone thinks she's a greyhound xD she's a Weimaraner. you know, the Wegman dogs? my fault really, somebody pointed out I made her too skinny and they're right. *sheepish grin*

thanks!

My favorite is the Weim in your picture! I think they are one of the prettiest breeds. And I love that movie. I haven't seen it in forever. My favorite is the Bloodhound. His owner is insane. I remember the scene when he was making baby noises and kissing the poor dog. o__0 Well, I guess all the owners were insane. I want a pug just because they are funny. But I suppose that's not a good reason to get a dog is it? Oh yea, there is a whippet lurcher at the pound. I am sooo tempted to go grab it. >__<

swift-whippet In reply to Queen-of-Greyhounds [2007-10-15 05:57:32 +0000 UTC]

Weims are indeed gorgeous. <3 and yeah I hadn't seen that movie in a long time before I watched it again, and I like it so much more now. hee.

the bloodhound was so gorgeous and such a sweetheart, you could just tell by the way he was. I watched the movie with commentary and Christopher Guest (who plays his owner in the movie) admitted to getting so fond of the dog he would have taken him home if he didn't already have owners. xD

WHIPPET LURCHER. I wish I had the time and money and general space to devote to a dog right now. D:

If you think that dog show people are nuts, you should look into cat shows. Those people are a breed of their own. o-o We had to watch about it in my course at school, the whole class was in stitches. ^_^;
This is very well done though. I like how each dog has personality all their own.

Good on ya and good luck! ^_^ I"m going to one on the 26th-28th, I'm not sure where it is, but I'm helping a friend of the family. (I dunno if you've heard of MerryMops? It's an Old English Sheepdog Breeder ^_^) It'll be fun I think. Thanks for replying!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to Amber-jo [2007-10-14 20:30:46 +0000 UTC]

of course it would depend on what my future dog liked. but shows and activities really do help bond you and your dog, so if not conformation then maybe agility or flyball or even frisbee. I haven't heard of that but then I don't know much about Old English Sheepdogs! MerryMops is the cutest kennel name I've ever heard. <3 good luck with the show!

and not a problem, I like chatting to people.
