Description shake it like a bowl of soup
let your body loop de loop
put your hands on your hip
come on and let your backbone slip
move your body like your hip
and just shake!
-otis redding, shake

fun doodle I wanted to colour. I missed drawing Swift. <3

(I now have a furaffinity account! [link] I never thought I'd get one really, since I've never really been into the furry fandom as such. I do enjoy drawing anthro animals just because I enjoy playing around with the anatomy and design and making it work aesthetically, and even though I got bored of them for a while back there I want to get back into drawing them. There are some critters that I haven't really seen anthromorphised that I'd like to experiment with - walruses, for example. or pangolins.
so, yah, if you're a fan of my anthro art that's the place to go. I'll now be using devART primarily for nonmorphic animal and human art, which will continue in full force for sure. :3)

Hehe I love the wonderful gesture in this Swift! The arched back, whippety tail and flicking wrists, they all add to the movement and character and I love how the whole pose just works!

I know of someone who has an anthro pangolin character. I think their name on DA might even be something like Psionic Pangolin.

Love the movement you have going in the picture, and hope I'll keep seeing pictures from you (that is, you don't decide FurAffinity is better and just move there ).

omg AWESOME!! I'll have to find this person now.

Thanks so much! And nah, I doubt it. I have too many friends here, I just wanted a place to post anthro art because I'm starting to get into it again. I also want a nice balanced selection of work over here on dev. love!

also-- this is awesome, i really love your style of anthros. i stopped practicing my drawing humans/anthros, i should start again... >>

OH, and i've been thinking about joining MG again. i reeeally miss rp'ing, but i'm afraid of being inactive again. xP if i can finish this stupid pit bull ref sheet... uuugh i hate drawing pits, their anatomy is wonky.

heehee do it! even back in the day I don't think I was ever completely satisfied with the way I drew anthros. practice drawing humans and then sort of come up with a happy medium between the two. :3

o rly! well maybe getting into a plot with someone would keep you around. I'd be glad to help you in that department. :3

Hey, I have an FA account. But it's for my mature artwork so it's not typically something I like sharing. >.> Not that I draw a lot of mature things but, the few I do, I dunno...

Anyways, I'mma watch you on der.

This is an interesting image. I like the loose manner in which it's drawn. I think you could've exaggerated the pose a little more. It seems like you did so a little bit in the feet and legs but not really anywhere else. A little more movement in the arms, spine and head might add to this piece... one day. X3

I really like that shading, despite its simplicity. It's still really effective at making your character appear three-dimensional, despite the fact that there isn't much to it. I give you kudos for that. ^^

swift-whippet In reply to Avyris [2008-12-18 18:50:14 +0000 UTC]

Ahah, I see what you mean. No worries, I actually have my account set to not view adult content even though I'm over 18, just because I don't particularly want to see that while I'm browsing around. xD If there's anything you're proud of, though, tell me and I'll switch my account to view and take a look! thanks for the watch, too. :3

Yeah, you're right about that now I look at it. I'm definitely still getting used to this whole loose sketching thing as well as playing around with anthro anatomy, but someday I'll get there! I'm a lot looser than I used to be and I couldn't be happier with that.

thanks, Avy!

That title is win. XD
I love the pose, and I really like the shading, especially on Swift's shirt. I actually prefer drawings like this, there's something about a loose, sketchy feel that I just really enjoy.
I don't have an account over on furaffinity, but I'll keep an eye out for your art there anyways.

I love the loose sketchy feel as well, so I'm glad you do too. Thank you! :3

xDDD I do know what you mean. But I have friends over there, and even though I'm over 18 I actually have my account set to not view mature art so that I don't have to look at porn, hahah!

We can be friends over there too, maybe I can introduce you to some nice people. I'm not that into the 'furry' culture but I have some good friends that are and I do like drawing anthro animals.

Anyway i would like to see your anthro stuff ^_^
I don't do much anthro, but i'm thinking of making human forms for my animal characters... i need people in my portfolio

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to maria-mar [2008-12-18 18:45:56 +0000 UTC]

Do it!! That helped me so much, having human forms for my animals. They're a lot of fun to plan out and because you already have some 'feel' to them, it's better than drawing some random human because it gives you a place to start. Also since they're characters that you love, you end up drawing the humans just as much and getting more practice with humans. It's a complete-win situation! I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

maria-mar In reply to swift-whippet [2008-12-18 18:49:35 +0000 UTC]

I already sketched one, and it's so easy cause yeah, like you said, they're already in my mind ^_^
having a color associated to each character is helping to create the "feeling" too

Ooooh like the expression and the pose. You don't often see characters dancing in art and how its done here is interesting. It fits with the way you do anthro characters.

All in all a great little work.

swift-whippet In reply to WilsontheElk [2008-12-18 16:06:09 +0000 UTC]

Why thanks BW! I'm not that into the 'furry' culture but I have some good friends that are and I do like drawing anthro animals. I fell out of doing it for a while because I was practicing my humans and just having an animal head on a human body got boring to me. But now I'm having more fun playing with and pushing the anatomy a bit more, so they're fun for me again!

also I love drawing characters dancing!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WilsontheElk In reply to swift-whippet [2008-12-18 16:37:42 +0000 UTC]

Imo you don't have to be furry to draw anthro but that is one huge topic on its own. I would not call it "furry" to do what you are doing now. Oh and I can see how animal head on human could be boring as in the end its just basically a human with a different head. You make a good effort on making sure that does not happen.

swift-whippet In reply to WilsontheElk [2008-12-18 16:41:07 +0000 UTC]

I am in agreement with you, but the problem with people is they tend to typecast and compartmentalise. How wouldn't you define this as 'furry' though? I'm curious because everyone seems to have a different way of drawing the line that encompasses furry art.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WilsontheElk In reply to swift-whippet [2008-12-18 17:12:54 +0000 UTC]

Hmmmn thats a hard one as my line is very blurred. Obviously someone who wears a fursuiter for a start in my books. To be honest though...it really comes down to the person. If you have two people drawing anthro and one says anthro artist and another says furry then both are what they say they are if they fit certain critea (in this case the critera being that a furry has an interest in animal art). Its really about the persons personal sense of indeitification to me.
