I was just a kid, and remember riding my back down to kirtland park in 1978 to see this amazing plane! It made two passes, the first pass was from the east and fast it then made a slow pass out of the west! This was the most amazingly loud thing I had ever heard! However, i think the lancer will give it a decibel run!

When I was in Okinawa, the Blackbirds were based there. It was amazing the rate of climb they had.

I agree it is not the best picture. It was from a picture I took over 30 years ago and I do not have the best way to scan. But it is still a great aircraft!

This one was taken at the Cleveland National Airshow about 1979. I wish that you could still see one fly. They have all been retired to museums. I saw them take off from Kadena Airbase when I was there TDY In the '80's. They were very impressive.

Yes, it was quite a sight! I understand that it could go much faster than was admitted. I hope some day we will know for sure.
