Description Operating for just over 100 years from 1870 to 1976, Beckton Gas Works on the north bank of the Thames outside London was once the largest in the entire world and the largest in Europe. Its size was such that it sported its own internal railway system, which had tight curves and very low clearances. One such engine was this one seen here. It was built by Neilson of Glasgow in 1892 for Beckton Gas Works where it worked on the system for many years until it was preserved in the 1960s. It has not steamed since preservation and currently is for sale online by Preston Steam Services forΒ Β£40,000 as of the publication of this deviation.
