Description Day 11 of my Sprite Advent Calendar

Naturally, when there is a small or medium tender engine, it is more than likely that there will eventually be a tank engine. Such was the case with John Ramsbottom's DX goods. 943 of these engines were built by Crewe works from 1858 to 1872, making it the largest single class of locomotive in British history. Ramsbottom then used the same general design to create a saddle tank version, known as the Special Tank class, and 278 were built by Crewe works. These engines were used on all types of shunting and goods work, and five managed to survive into British Railways use as departmental stock. These last remainders were withdrawn by 1959 and none were preserved. It is interesting to note that these were the the third oldest class of locomotive on British Railways, next to the Beattie Well tanks and the Terriers.

I think this engine might be the basis of a custom steamie we saw from the wooden railway franchise
