They really went all in with the new B platform. Took the recessed headlights of the '73-'75 cars and made it even more extreme, and added some neat angles to the front clip. Kept those nice full mesh grilles that went across the entire front clip (much like the '75 Electra, my all-time favorite Buick). Wire wheels with the Buick shields/crest balances out the edginess nicely!

Another reason why I love Buicks..always had their distinct designs.

Interesting headlight design this car is rocking there.

Indeed, which made this the only one of the '77-'90 B-bodies with any style (the LeSabre moved to the FWD H-platform in '86).  The rest were the 'grill and taillights' badge-engineering we've come to associate with General Motors.

Heresy! Look at the '77-'79 Caprice (especially the aerocoupes). Also look at the '77-'79 Bonnevilles. Then compare those two to the Buicks like this one here. There are tons and tons of differences, from the positioning and intensity of the creases to the positioning and shapes of the headlights/taillights. The Pontiac is especially striking with that "beak" on the front clip, Buick has that really upright vibe going, and the Caprice is wide and squat like a mean muscle car. Much more than grille and tail lights. They did start to get lazy as the box body generation soldiered on, I can't deny that. But initially they were very unique.

The problem is, from the side, all of those look alike (not counting the aerocoupe Caprices).

Yeah.... there's no denying that. From the A pillar to the C pillar you're going to see a lot of overlap. Same thing happens with the panthers. LTD CV and Grand Marquis doors are 100% identical. Town Car doors are different, but still eerily close. Have to rely on things like header panels and taillight extensions to make the cars' lines different. There's only so much you can deviate from the a platform's essential features.... most of the heavy metal stuff is a no-go.

I'm surprised Chevrolet got away with making a unique rear window for literally one car on the entire B platform- assuming it wasn't offered on other B cars. At least with the G body based aerocoupes the rear windows are the same for the Monte Carlo and the Grand Prix. Either way those kinds of stylistic and engineering flourishes died from a lot of cars in the mid to late 2000s. All about conforming to choking regulations and making things as bland as possible because profitability, yo! Even if end users who actually care about more endearing things will be eternally pissed.

No, I'm talking about something far, far worse. The Cadillac Ci- I can't even sat it's name with physically recoiling.
