Holy crap! My cousin Byron's got one just like this- light blue 260Z with the manual transmission. It's either a '73 or '74. Ran like a top when he parked it about 15 years ago. He loved driving his.... handled really well, and had decent power for a smogger-bogger car. They're good looking too, with those '60s Ferrari style headlights and classic sports car proportions!

Show him these pics and maybe it'll encourage him to get his back out.

Oh yeah! He's been slowly tiptoeing in that direction.... all we need is a small spark to push him across the threshold. We shall see!

I think that's because they used to be everywhere.  It's hard for a design, even one as striking as this, to really stand out when you see them frequently.  But after the crusher claims most, and the roads are clogged with new cars that aren't very stylish at all, it becomes apparent what's missing.  This is one of those cars.  The Z Car is probably the single biggest reason why the Japanese car companies made such big gains into American market share in such a short time.  Their quality and the gas crises didn't hurt either, but the 240Z is what really made Americans notice them and start regarding them as more than a joke.  It's a sporty car, with good looks, decent performance, and an affordable price.  It's what the Mustang started as before it abandoned the market segment to become a muscle car (which is why the second generation Mustang was downsized to go toe-to-toe with the Z and the Celica).
