Ooh, I don't know about you, but that looks frighteningly foreboding. o.O
I think it's partly the way the black and white contrast is so deep. The fact it's so dark and dismal reflects the atmosphere and mood well. Next is probably the wideness. I think you've captured a great amount of the structure to make it appear more intimidating, like...
The clouds add some more substance to things, as if they were swirling around in anguish. All of it just factors in to the impact and such.
