Forgive me if I'm misaken but did you partially reference Niagara Falls for the background or is that it's own real place?

Reference came from many sources - then recreated from memory into the painting :-D

It's a beautiful picture. But I don't get why the young woman in the red dress is so sad?

A touching scene. Lovely work. Looks like the lady of the house has gotten some horrible news, delivered to her by a family friend...So sad.

Ooh oooh. I wanna try my hand a guessing the story. First, though... very good painting. So much detail.
Now I think that the lady in the red dress belongs to a wealthy family perhaps and the lady pouring wine/water is a servant. I suppose she could also be a friend. The man sitting off to the side has just delivered the letter that the lady in the red dress is crying into. Obviously a sad letter. Maybe her lover was killed in battle? And while the servant/friend girl seems concerned, she is pouring a drink for the man who has come such a long way to deliver the letter.
Okay... I'm finished now. Lol.

Marvelous! The emotions contained in the picture. The middle character seems to be crying about something, and the maiden on the right seems either annoyed or does not care about the sorrow, and the male on the left, has a look of concern, or that of, "patient pain," for what she is going through.

Well met!

It tells a grand story for me. Maybe a lost man saved by a hidden village. Or a father about to leave his family when he's called to duty.
It paints a Lord of the Rings story, which was also beautiful with landscapes mirroring this.
Well done, truely beautiful. I only wish I could buy this.
