What you see is our premium Tokage Katana. Featuring a traditional folded steel blade, clay tempered, quenched, and hand polished.to create the perfect edge for cutting and blocking. The folding of steel proves the best method of forging blades. The blade is repeatedly heat-treated, folded and hammered to create the finished product. The folding removes impurities and helps even out the carbon content, while the alternating layers combine hardness with ductility to create toughness.

Differentiated from our budget series, each deluxe blade is handmade by our craftsmen with years of experience in forging, shaping and polishing blades. The fittings were chosen with painstaking detail to provide an overall superior sword for our customers. The sword is fully sharpened using a 13 stage hand polishing/sharpening process. This process is designed to create an edge that is extremely sharp, and a finish that brings out the character of the sword. The 13 stage process is extremely time consuming, and it is the premium polish we offer for our swords, far superior to both the 10 and 12 stage polish. With the finish on this blade you can expect to see the full character of the tempering line on the blade.

The main unique feature of this katana is the clay tempered process and true geometric Yokote. Clay tempering is a process in sword forging where clay is applied to the blade before heat treatment. The different thickness of the clay applied causes the blade to undergo differential heating process, making the blade combine the character of a powerful edge and a flexible back. The blade features a true clay tempered hamon. Each blade is truly unique and exhibits it's own character. The hamon on the blade is actually quite striking and visible from just about every angle. We polish the kissaki in a traditional manner and give it a true geometric yokote.

The tsuba is made of Iron and the koshirae fittings are fully made of copper. These fittings are more traditional, and will offer a superior balance due to the higher weight (pulling the balance closer to the tsuka). In addition copper fittings are much more durable, and while not recommended, could even sustain a direct strike (for example if you dropped the sword by accident) with minimal damage. Each Katana is fully handmade from start to finish so you can be sure that yours is truly one-of-a-kind
