I really enjoy this technique. The large, visible brush strokes are fantastic. It adds texture to the piece and helps to create a sense of strong sense of movement. However, I feel the movement is limited. The eye seems to move only up and down the center. I think if you better utilize the rule of thirds, it will give the viewer something more visually interesting to look at.
You have a strong focal point at the base of the tree. I think the roots are well executed. They look believable, not too thin and not too thick and they're well positioned. The center of the trunk, though, should be a little more defined. It seems to get lost against the background. Perhaps adding a little more shadow, like at the top, or darkening the background will help?
You have a good, consistent sense of lighting coming from the front, except for the bottom left and right. I don't think there should be that much shadow since it's closer to the light source, but that's only a minimal complaint. You have an excellent sense of depth and your background is well executed; it's interesting yet it doesn't eclipse the foreground.
As it stands, I think the piece is average overall. With some adjustment, you really have the potential to make this an excellent piece. Well done. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>
