Gnarls always are fun; the smoky appearance and muted tones work very well.  Slightly increased sharpness in the rendering would make the image pop a bit more, I think, and I'd also love to see the central part of the fractal a bit more closely, as the transitions from high value to lower value is a very appealing shift.
