Description I had some people suggest I try 'cel-shading' with a pencil, so I tried that...  It didn't look strong enough though, and the pencils were still quite soft in the flat areas, so I added ink to pop it more.  I think it works more but I'm still not sure if it needs to be even sharper.

On a positive note, I received an Artisul D13 display thingy and that should sort of replace my Cintiq until it's repaired.  Bad news is, it doesn't work well with Windows 7 at all, so I'm having to use it on my slow Windows 10 laptop.  Still better than nothing though, so maybe I'll do more digital works...  Unless people prefer I stick to traditional longer.

Sorry for silly pose, I didn't use reference this time and I majorly fucked up on the hand and hopefully it doesn't draw too much attention.  Her back arm is conveniently hidden cuz I wanted the silhouette to be clean but dunno if it just looks like she's a one-armed person.

Really late comment I know but eh 8'D. I like all your stuff, but I'm very much enjoying your traditional work, meaning that it's cool if you stick to traditional till your Cintiq is fixed. Ink gives me so much trouble, I usually mess something up but when used properly it looks awesome XD. She doesn't look one-armed 8'D

Also Windows 10 are the devil.

I think this is working really well. Maybe vary the line weights next time? I think that would make it even better.

I really like this, actually!
And I think you should use materials, that you wanna use at that time.
Don't be forced to do something you don't want

The head still goes well with the gesture. And I, at least, would surely love to see you use "analogue" media. Pencil isn't obligatory.

Your style looks really well in fight scenes and such i'm sure, but in my opinion it just ain't made for sexy things.

I love seeing you do traditional work! I'd get a kick out of seeing you pick up paint and have a go with that too, I can just imagine your pointy chins style in oils/ pallet knife..

I love how far you push the anatomy, the hand doesn't look wrong, it just looks stylised.

I want you to stick with traditional.

I think I know what the problem is with you not liking your pencils and shading work. You're mentally fighting it. You want your penciling style to resemble digital too much, but they are completely two different styles of media. They weren't designed to look or feel the same. Instead you should just embrace that your pencils aren't going to exactly resemble your digital work.

No, she looks two-armed to me I love the mix of sofft and sharp lines <3 I bet she wouldn't be allowed on a plane with those calfs
And to finish my random thoughts stream,  although I like it, by more cell shaded style I meant more like Joe Mad type of shading, you know him but I'll still drop a link to first google image xD

I think you can go more pointy with the edges! add in fine points artificially (small fineliner) if your pen isn't fine enough.
apart from that it looks great You're the main reason I check my deviantart watch atm so whatever you post I'll be happy

I love the top half ALOT and you're right it's hard to do cell shading with soft pencils, what you could try is line the shadows and highlights where you want them and fill in as best you can so it looks more solid? I don't know I used to do it as a kid.

The bottom half is so distracting lol, you mentioned the hand but the hand looks fine to me but dem hips man lol. But I see her eyein dem hips and she looks pretty pleased with them XD

Woah! Your style is so much more alive and concise when you draw without references! I think when you get too attached to the reference you are looking at, your realism toggle on and your style ends up getting tone down. Maybe you should look at the reference only for the gesture sketch and then take it from infront of you and just try to build the drawing by yourself, only when needed you should come back to the reference for anatomy issues. This one looks so much more beautiful than the other two pencil drawings you have shown us so far, this one looks more uniquely you!

the name is the best, dude. i'm still laughin! D

And i prefer the traditional over the digital work. It is just more appealing to me in a certain way. However, i still like your digital work!!

Definitely liking this more! the ink definitely helps make it look really sharp. Honestly not sure how you'd get it looking sharper...maybe making the shading even darker but then the ink might look lost :/ hmm tough call...

Agreed. I think this certainly works more thanks to the ink. That boldness really takes it further.

I think the shoulder is the area you shaded best. I can't fully tell, but if I zoom in to the full version it seems as though you used a bit of hatching, which gives it a sharp lighting. Good stuff.

Best name yet my man. Actually, traditional is really refreshing. Tablet or not, I hope you stick with traditional for a while longer. This is great to see. Really smooth and easy on the eyes. Which is surprising considering you have a sharp style. Loving it!
