nice drawing! you really have a knack for the texture of the scales.. i would love to see a little more depth on the tones on the wings though.. just some darker tones to show a shadow under the top of the bent wing and maybe some slight darkening to the part where the wing joins the body as there would be a shadow there..
However even if you didnt change anything its still a fantastic drawing.. and im sure your friend will be very happy with his present

oddly enough, it is shaded just as you suggested. my methods of uploading stuff though is so horrid that it ruins the actual drawing slightly, making them better in reality.

but thank you so much for stopping by and commenting! i really really appreciate it i hope you may find other things you like

your very welcome.. yes it can be quite annoying photographing art to make it look on the computer as good as it does in real life.. i struggle with this myself..
I think i found a tutorial yesterday about how to make your art look more like it does in real life.. if your interested i can see if i can find the link for you..

I havent had a chance to properly look at this yet so i hope it helps.. catclysm is an awesome artist and great with tutorials so im sure its good.. i think it was based on if you scan your artwork.. but im sure its the same principal if you photograph..
One thing i have found if you photograph try and do it in natural light ie outdoors.. tht way you dont need the flash and you wont get that horrid glare that graphite is reknown for giving in the darker areas..
anyways i hope that helps some
Naomi

Cool! Great investment of your seven hours. I like the composition with the figure filling the page and the interesting negative spaces. You have a good range of values here. It's a great piece of work!
