BlindSquirrels repro was based on a piece of fanart someone did, he's currently building a new one for me based on refined specs that we nailed to to 100% accuracy from several images from the series, artbook, and magazine scans. There are peroidcal progress updates of it on his Twitter page.

Well the gun will never be the same in every shot, simply because the artists can't go drawing every tiny detail for every single frame. Any shot that has a closeup of the gun is identical to the artbooks design and shape. Even if you exclude the size factor which totally mismatches the proportions of the gun, the design is almost toally different.

I went from shots mostly like this:

Perhaps I should have spent more time looking for better reference, but really this was just a quick spur of the moment exercise in sub-d modeling. With the images you've shown me, I'd do it a bit differently now if I was to redo it.

No, the gun in the Manga is completely different, the one from the artbook is the same one as in the show. I have a large collection of refrences taken from the Remastered DVD Edition of the series.

You have more references than I had then. Rewatching several youtube clips of the show, there's a significant amount of variation in the proportions though. My version and the artbook's seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. If I did it again I might try for a more middle of the road approach, but I prefer the exaggerated hand-cannon look to the more realistic pistol.

Oh there are a ton of differences. The sights are WAAAAY too small and the grip is all short and stubby compared to the rest of the gun, but thats not even getting into the design changes.
Rather than explain everything, here's a good shot of the gun from the artbook. I have this image in much better quality but am too lazy to look for it atm.

Ah, I see now, I think we are looking at different versions of the gun. Is that how it looks in the original manga? I based mine off the tv show, the source I was familiar with, which looks significantly different.

Nice render, but not very accurate.

Inaccurate in what way? I took certain small liberties, but I remember it being fairly true to the original.

i would love to have that gun (custom made) that it would be well like a shotgun mostly, or like a airsoft shotgun type would be great too.

I think Samurai Champloo is my personal favorite actually, but Outlaw is up there.
