Done for a project in my computer illustration class. The project was to make a theater poster of your choice. This Erik is a conglomerate of 2 of my friend one for the body one for the head then my eyes and mouth and my skull cheeks and eye sockets and chin.Merchandise now available of this artwork at Café

I just read those two comments above mine, and am now extremely depressed.
All the pictures of the holocaust that I've seen have always made me cry- the fact that those people were so skeletal and still alive scares me. I'd imagine, though, that that probably is very close to what Erik looked like.
He'd have to have been unimanginably terrifying to get the responses his appearence envoked in people.
It makes me feel so extremely bad that people treat others based on how they look, rather than the important stuff inside.

Your genius!!! This is really unnerving, in a way I always suspected Erik would look. I'm actually a little scared when I look at it. XD Great, now I'm going to freak out when it gets dark. o.o

hehe. That's how i wanted him to be unsettling, unnerving, freighting.......What would drive a man to wear a mask and what woudl make a girl act the way Christine did. That's the two questions I ask my self when i do Phantom art.

Very unique... This piece carries the same ambiance as the novel and 1925 silent film. I like how you blended this all together and created your own take on Erik's appearance. Actually, if they ever made another Phantom film, it would be awesome if this were the poster.

OMG you just made me cry. I think that was the nicest thing any one has ever said to me. I have tried for years to get Erik right and I feel I'm almost there. I was lucky to have read the book before I was ever exposed to anything else Phantom so really I approached Erik with the original intentions. Latter when i actually saw Lon Chaney's version and then years latter all the others i took what i liked from it, but tried to remain true to Gaston's description. I'm my heart I feel he probably did not look as bad as I make him, but I can not understand why any one would act the way Christine did unless it was really bad so i think that effected my view a lot. I also have studied holocaust photos for years sadly that's really the only material that i know of that can help me with skeletal features. Man I'm blabbing sorry. Just did not know how to respond to what you said. You are very sweet. You made my day.

Well, from what I've seen of your art on Erik, you are always pretty close to portraying him in the way I imagined. I'm glad I made your day. 
In my drawings, I try to approach Erik with original intentions, too. It's really hard, though, because he's so thin and the original facial deformity is very complex. I've looked over pictures of the holocaust, too, and actually have seen some facially disfigured people. It's sad because even they were killed because they weren't considered "normal."
