"Massive Blood Sucking Monsters!"

Next up is 1959's Attack of the Giant Leeches! This is a slightly interesting one in where I had a pretty clear-cut idea of how I was going to tackle this design when I got to it. After all, they're giant leeches, so that's what I was going to do. But when I did finally draw their number, I realized I wanted to do something different with them, something a little more unique. Especially more so since I didn't want to just copy my Yacumama design, particularly if they inhabited the same world. So after some inspiration searching, I found a really cool leech monster that gave me the general angle I wanted.

I started by designing the head, as I generally do, looking up what a leech mouth actually looks like. I was originally going to do a lamprey mouth, as I assumed they'd be similar, but it turns out leech mouths are actually quite different. From there I almost made a thicker humanoid body, but decided on a quadrupedal build instead, with each limb ending in another mouth. After that, I looked up the coloration ad patterns of a leech and just went to town. Wildly different than I originally intended, but it all came together so easily and I love the end result. Also found it kind of funny after I finished the colors with how much green coloring was in this batch! As mentioned above, this would be a distant relative of the Yacumama, adapted for a different climate and lifestyle.
