Description "If you see the Duwende, the Kapre is nearby. If you see the Kapre, the Duwende are nearby. One is not without the other."

The Kapre and the Duwende are both creatures from Filipino folklore and both can be found throughout the Philippine region.

The Kapre is a large hairy humanoid that is preceded by its foul odor, and the faint yet distinctive smell of its constantly lit cigar. The Kapre is usually found hanging around in trees where they can be approached and communicated with. If one can stand the egotistical nature of the Kapre, they can befriend it and call upon it for help if they are ever in trouble. Kapre are relatively docile, unless the tree that they call home is threatened, at which point they turn into raging beasts capable of flipping a bulldozer.

The Duwende, on the other hand, are a species of small monkey-like spirits seemingly formed from bark. The Duwende will always be found in the same tree a Kapre inhabits, and seemingly function as pets or 'minions' to the Kapre. The Duwende are fairly simple creatures, feeding primarily off vegetation and playing with each other and their Kapre friend when excited. But when around humans, the Duwende become mischievous, loving to steal from them or to hide objects important to them. Unfortunately, Duwende seem to be excessively aggressive towards children, who often find them cute, and kill them by eating their bowels.

there are similar creatures to the Duwende, like the Engkanto because they are like the fair folk but on Philippines, the Engkanto are environmental spirits that can either bring good and bad luck, some humans who don't favor the Engkanto end up mad, depressed or gone, plus they can cause magical fevers and skin diseases to their victims.

Interesting! I know there's a fair few creatures I skipped over due to them being overly similar. My thought process was that they were just seeing the same creatures but in different places.
