The eponymous Labyrinth Custodians are a species of Extradimensional Horror that seem to have evolved directly within the walls of 99. Even to higher beings like Mr. Nightmare it is unknown exactly where, when or how the Custodians came to be, as their existence seems directly tied to the creation of each and every game of 99 or its various offshoots. Ever prevalent, these creatures sluggishly slither through the halls of 99, looking for scraps of food to consume.

It would shock literally no one to say that 99 creates some of the most visceral, violent and disgusting messes imaginable. While there isn't really a need to clean things up due to the nature of how 99 is run, creatures still evolved seemingly to do just that. The Custodians seek out the various types of mess that 99 produces and lap said messes up their various tentacles and tendrils, leaving the area behind them surprisingly spotless. They are more than willing to ignore the living creatures that surround them, however if threatened, the Custodians are more than capable of tearing foes apart with their hooked suckers. Interestingly, due to a specific facet of 99's creation, The Dark One sees the Custodians are a nuisance, though thus far all attempts to dispose of them have proven unsuccessful.
