For the next redesign, I tackled Mr. Johnson from Not of This Earth, released in 1957! This was another one where I juggled a few basic concepts around before deciding on a simple Grey-style alien. I figured such a classic interpretation would fit well with the concept of an alien trying to hide among humanity. It's funny that I went that way though, as I was given basically free rein to do whatever I want since we never see if Johnson has a true form in the movie. But again, simplicity can work wonders!

Because of this though, there isn't too much to talk about process-wise as it was a pretty straightforward proceeding with most of the more unique ideas coming from ideas in the movie proper. While the neck mouth comes from me and reference, the veins, white eyes, mechanical legs and the little creatures are inspired by the source. In the movie, Mr. Johnson's people are dying of an incurable blood disease which I decided to show through his sickly skin, visible discolored veins and the mechanical legs replacing the legs he lost from the disease. As for the little umbrella aliens, those are pretty much unchanged as I thought they were pretty fun as-is, though I gave each some unique colors to differentiate them.
