Description
Sunrise over the Nubian desert near Tumbos (تمس) in the Sudan. We had our tent camp in this place, and after a day of rain (yes, rain in the desert. I know) and a stormy night, the sun eventually broke through. The rays reminded me of the ancient Egyptian representation of the Aten, the sun-disk sometimes shown with human arms and hands reaching down to the earth. The Aten was made the chief and sole god under the reign of the 'heretic' pharaoh Akhenaten (né Amenhotep IV).
