Description Series: Samurai Deeper Kyo

Translation: "Eyes not Needed"

When I found out that Akira blinded himself in order to become stronger (>.O ...it makes sense, trust me!), I knew I'd eventually have to do a doujin concerning it. In essence, Akira willingly sacrificed all the beauty of the visible world in order to gain an edge over his opponents, relying on "reading" them with his other senses. Add to the fact he was already reasonably intelligent, he learned to deduce emotions even outside of battle.

But what really struck me about this situation is how quickly Akira rises to justify his course of action, when he's otherwise very close-mouthed about himself. In volume 14, Bontenmaru remarks how easy it is to forget that Akira is blind, as he always seems to know where he's going. Stung, Akira replies, "I have no need for eyes. There is little in this world that I care to see." He smiles bitterly while Yuya gives him a sympathetic, wondering look.

(When drawing this, the random thought of "What Akira really needs is a hug... or therapy. Looooots of therapy" popped into my head. Which then led to me think about what a Shiseiten group therapy session would be like... [>.<] *falls off chair*)

26. But I normally pretend the anime doens't exist, since it did such a gad-awful job of following the manga. Which rocks. Totally.

No, the anime has no plot, so it's perfectly understandable that you didn't get it. BUY MANGA! (This public service statement has been issued by sylva-nee-sama. Thank you. )

Oh wow, you did a wonderful job with the emotion in this one. And I thought it was really sad when Akira said there wasn't anything he wanted to see in this world, either. I kept wondering if Yuya might be the one thing he really would WANT to see.

And I'm all for therapy. Lots of it, and toss in a roll in the hay with Yuya, since apparantly the poor boy REALLY needs that, too.

sylvacoer In reply to Alycat [2006-02-28 06:51:49 +0000 UTC]

The boy's solidly in denial - what great fic-fare, ne? that's why I loved zuki-nee-sama's "I Would Never Hurt You" so much (which, incidentally, also converted me to being a hard-core Akira x Yuya shipper). Ooooo, oooo, now I have to do another fanart about him wanting to see (Yuya)! [>.<] Damn me and my incessant fangirling!

Hay-rolling = therapy? Definitely, in Akira-kun's case! (*^.^*) Thanks for the fave!

Alycat In reply to sylvacoer [2006-03-02 00:41:26 +0000 UTC]

Denial is too weak a word for what he's in. And like you, "I Would Never Hurt You" turned me into the hardcore AxY shipper I am today. BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm surprised you're not swearing at me and giving you so many fanart ideas! ^_~

*snicker* Oh yeah, as long as it's not in actual hay. Speaking as someone who has had a lot of experiance with hay in general (not in THAT way, I help load and unload haybales), it's not the most ideal bed for "that" particular activity. Ouch.

Painful, isn't it? I've got scars from moving haybales all over my arms and legs. Thankfully they never last long, but for a while I look like I cut myself on purpose.

Oooh this is going to be a favourite, definitely! I love this picture and it's definitely one to see with full viewing! I love how the fabric of the kimono fades and you see lil Akira-kun's legs through it.

It's really sad isn't it, how Akira says there's little in the world he'd like to see. What about a beautiful senset or sunrise? Or a beautiful waterfall? I want to give him a very big hug.

I wouldn't want to be the shrink the Shiseiten tell their stories to, really. *imagines a picture of Akari laying in the shrink couch and telling her story*

I wanted some symbollism in there: even though akira's turned his back on his past, it's still a part of him, faded in somewhere. And YES, so much angst about the blinding - that's why I'm always hesitant to write fanfic from his POV, I've never experienced any such loss myself.

And dude - if anyone actaully wrote that Shiseiten therapy scene into fanfic... I would bear their children for them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

akai-no-akuma In reply to sylvacoer [2006-02-27 22:44:25 +0000 UTC]

If I thought myself capable of writing said fanfic I would.

The most terrifying thing for me is when it's dark, it's raining and I'm on a dark road and cars come heading towards me with their big headlights. Then I'm seriously blind. And to be honest: that shares the shit out of me. So I can't imagine what it's like for him to not be able to see anything. I've written Akira's POV before, but then I focus mostly on his other senses.

And everytime I write about him I wonder if he really is happy with that he can't see a thing. I always wonder if there isn't something that he'd still like to see.

I personally beleive that's why he got so snippy in vol 14 - he has to tell himself that there's nothing he wants to see, otherwise he might start to regret.

I like to think that too. Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks that. That's why I thought it was so great he opened his eyes during his battle with Tokito. I don't know everything that's going down in that battle, because I've only read summaries. But I would love to read the whole thing once it gets translated into English.
