Description You know, pencil is the medium I have the most experience in. Partly because my teachers would have noticed if I'd set up watercolors during class.

Here's my first attempt to draw my three G1 ponies with their peculiar-to-G1 traits. I ignored the G1 cartoon flutter wing design in favor of the wings the toy originally had. Buzzer's massive Summer Wings were the hardest part. I ended up holding the toy in one hand while I sketched with the other. In case you can't make it out, the symbol on Morning Glory's cheek is a morning glory bud.

And this picture pretty much sums up the personalities I gave them when I was small. Vague and ill-defined as they were, but hey, I was seven.

Done on printer paper with a Ticonderoga pencil, cleaned up in Paint.net.

ETA: Since several people have asked, these ponies are, left to right: Starshine, Morning Glory, and Buzzer.

why is morning glory angry?

Buzzer's annoying her. (In my head, they're sisters, and Buzzer is more hyper than MG knows what to do with.)

Cute! I never was much for ponies when I was little, never watched any shows except the most recent incarnation of them, so I don't really know anything except that these are adorable :3 but that is enough for me. Lovely art too by the way, I wish I could shade mine that well.

Thank you! I never watched the pre-FiM shows either. I just liked ponies.

Shading can get pretty frustrating for me, so I'm glad you like it!

shading is always the worst for me, usually I ruin more pieces with it than I make better... so I have a great respect for people who do it well lol

That's Starshine. She's a rainbow pony, and nearly as old as I am. Sorry, guess I should have said.

Aw, poor pony! Will you try to rehair it? And which one did you get? (Out of curiousity.)

Shadowgirlfan In reply to SynCallio [2012-12-29 20:07:41 +0000 UTC]

uhm Sun Glider I think (pink body, green hair and a sun with cloud as CM) and no. I don't know how and also don't know where to get the stuff

SynCallio In reply to Shadowgirlfan [2012-12-30 05:09:00 +0000 UTC]

Cool! I found a picture of Sun Glider: she is a very pretty pony!

Yeah, rehairing can be scary. There are a few places online that carry replacement hair for ponies. It took all my nerve to take the head off my old Morning Glory so that I could give her a new mane. I was sure I was going to put a huge, nasty cut in her neck!

my cousin once this one [link]
I liked it that much that I always wanted my own, but never got one.

well cutting off the head would not be the hard part. I have my little "guinea pig". blue bell. got her as a gift and has really bad hair. I also don't really like her, but so what. she was a gift.

morning glory? you mean this? [link]
or this? [link]

If you want to try rehairing a pony, I can point you to some good tutorials. Once you've got the head off and the old hair gone, if you're good with a needle and thread, the rest is simple.

Mine is that first link. Here's how she looked when I was finished (I also had to replace her wings!)

Shadowgirlfan In reply to SynCallio [2012-12-30 18:38:20 +0000 UTC]

wow!
have you also done the wings yourself?
I always try to find a flutterpony WITH wings on ebay, but I find only weather the pony alone or the wings, but never both in the same offering.
why is it that hard to find a complete flutter pony?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SynCallio In reply to Shadowgirlfan [2012-12-30 19:24:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I made the wings! It took several tries to make a pair that matched and looked good.

Flutter pony wings were made of very brittle plastic. Few have survived unbroken. I think mine broke within a week or two, and I was gentle with my toys. I'm surprised you've seen any wings at all!

There are some people who make replacement wings that look like the originals, but I don't know how to find them or how much that would cost.

Shadowgirlfan In reply to SynCallio [2012-12-30 21:12:34 +0000 UTC]

why did hasbro use that sensitive material?
I mean seriously. the ponies are actually made for children. they should have known, that children might brake them

I think they would be expensive. they calculate the material cost and the personal effort -.-
