And as befitting of the most metal god in mythology, his death is at Ragnarok, when Fenrir Wolf eats him whole.
Though Norse mythology tends to have some really intense and dark moments in it. And just a note about Thor: Ragnarok; Hela in the movie has virtually nothingΒ to do with Hel of mythology. Unlike the other characters who have had at least someΒ inspiration from myth, Hela had been 100% butchered from her original character. First, Hela is the Romanized version of the name, Hel is the actual name of the character, and the land of the dead in Norse myth was named after her. Second, she is not the daughter of Odin, but rather the daughter of Loki when Loki had committed adultery with a Jotunn woman namedΒ AngrboΓ°a, and her relationship with Thor is more cousin-cousin... Indirectly... Long story. Third, she is not an evil character. She isn't a conqueror. She just sort of exists. Fourth, her involvement in the events of Ragnarok are severelyΒ overstated in the movie. Her role was very indirect, and not of her intentions. Also, in myth, then half of her body is a living, youthful, beautiful girl, while the other half is a decaying corpse.

Also, in Norse myth, there was no "god of thunder", or "god of wisdom", "god of mischief", "god of war", or anything like that. None of the gods had any roles that would necessarily exclude the others. So it wouldn't be "Thor the Thunder God" or "Loki the God of Trickery" or "Loki the God of Fire" anything along those lines. It's just "The GodΒ Γorr", or "The God Loki", etc. The application of such roles isn't native to Norse mythology, but rather, was introduced by Snorri Sturlusson in the 13th century based on Mediterranean and Christian beliefs and symbolism. And Jotnar weren't giants; giant humanoids is more the Greek's thing. Jotunn is derived etymological Norse word for "to consume", rather than anything regarding size. In addition, it's likely that the Norse viewed Jotnar as roughly equivalent to the traditional pantheon of gods.
And I can point out a million other differences. I've even thought about making a post dedicated to the differences... Also, no offense to Chris Hemsworth, but he's a bit too feminine for the role ofΒ Γorr.
