History:
Zoey was born in 1991 from a love affair between two Magnetons; Serena Connor, and an unknown person who left her shortly afterwards.
Serena's husband, Rick Connor, a big and tough Steelix man from the States, never found out about the affair and was convinced the Magnemite was his child. He isn't the brightest.
They raised Zoey together at their home in Pewter City in Kanto, where Rick owned a nearby scrapyard.
Although Magnemites are a genderless species, Zoey took after her mother in identifying as female, much to Rick's displeasure; he wanted a boy, so he pretty much treated her like one. She grew up loving her mother, and looking up to her father, always trying to impress him.
When she started school, she was bullied for being "weird" and "quiet", but Rick taught her to be tough and fight back, which she did... and then she became the bully... She didn't make any friends.
After that, Zoey spent a lot of time with her father, helping him out at his scrapyard, learning about welding, milling, and mechanical assembly from him. She also did very well in school, being years ahead of her other classmates.
She became somewhat of a perfectionist, always striving to better herself for her father's approval.
Zoey was 8 years old when she found Cora in her father's scrapyard. After bringing it home, she discovered the mechanical shell's sentience with her smarts... or maybe it was a Magnemite thing.
Rick didn't exactly approve of her obsession with the shell, even after making it functional, but he reluctantly agreed to let her keep it.
Cora became Zoey's only friend, and she started spending pretty much all of her freetime with the Porygon.
However, Rick never treated Cora as more than a machine, which often upset her, causing Zoey to start growing a resentment toward her father.
When Zoey was 16, a Magneton at this point, she moved to Saffron City with Cora and went to college in the engineering field, eventually working up to a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
She wasn't interested in making any friends there though. Cora was more than enough for her. She loved her.
It didn't take long for Zoey to get a job in a small mechanical workshop after she graduated and, due to her quick learning and determined work ethic, she went on to manage the place and even completely took it over after a year, when the old owner had to retire.
Zoey turned the workshop into a business for both mechanical and computer maintenance so that Cora could start working there. Having two workers at once could make them more money, being in the shop together would give them more time to hang out and, most importantly,
the exposure to customers would hopefully make Cora more comfortable with being out of their apartment.
The business did well in the city, as the added IT department was apparently popular with the city folk.
Zoey and Cora went on living like this in the city to this day. Zoey knows Cora isn't entirely comfortable in the city though, and she has recently been debating the idea of moving somewhere nicer with her, but she hasn't told Cora about it yet.
She wants to wait until she finds a good place she can move her business to.
"Leave. Her. Alone."
Extras:
- Zoey evolved into a Magneton just at the age of 9, then into a Magnezone at the age of 20 after a trip to Chargestone Cave in Unova, where she went with Cora with the intention of evolving.
- She's in love with Cora, and they actually tried to have a relationship for a while, but it only lasted a few weeks. Cora just doesn't feel the same way, so she wasn't comfortable with it.
- Using her magnetism, Zoey can float in the air with ease, and she can fly very fast. However, she restrains her magnetism when around Cora, since it affects her mind.
- Zoey has a strange unknown way of silently communicating with other Magne-people and Magne-ferals, and her antenna lets her communicate with Cora when she's in cyberspace. It also works like a radar.
