this is beautiful. she looks so real. it really give off that "more than meets the eye" feel.
i was wondering about the markers that you used. would you recommend them or would you say that they require a level of skill to use? i would really like to get my hands on some. any idea where i could find them?

I would totally recommend Copic sketch markers to anyone who's serious about marker work and who is comfortable painting. They do have two ends; a brush nib and a square-ish nib, but the brush nib is like.. 10x more efficient than the square nib at covering large areas. If you've never used alcohol based markers before and you don't paint, you should consider either getting a small pack of Copics, or even a set of Neo Piko Deleter (smaller than Copics and less expensive, but dry out faster, can't be refilled, and the nib goes bad fast) markers. I had a lot of experience with Prismacolor markers before I got my Copics, and bought a set of 30 to start off with when I was in Japan. There's a huge difference in quality between Prismas and Copics. I could really gush on and on about how much I love those markers... Anyway, Prismas may be nice to start off with but they dry out very fast, the tiny nib is absolutely worthless and they don't always cover a large area smoothly.
When I decided I wanted the full set of sketch Copics (largest selection of colors) I did a lot of shopping via the internet before I found oozak.com; it looks like he still has really competative prices on the markers; comparable to what you'd pay in Japan. Looks like he's really expanded his selection of products in the past few years too. Anyway.. oozak has both Copics and Neopikos if you want to try one or the other; I bought my sets over a several month period and it was really easy dealing with that store.

wow. I love the contrats in colors, especially between the red and the turquoise. The necklace looks really nifty- the texture on the rocks is nice.

I think the part I like best is how her hair is really glowing in the light... I'm awestruck by it. Her eyes bother me a little, only because they seem a tad distant from each other (at least, based on human proportions)... and I agree that they're quite striking... the amber effect is lovely. The necklace and bacground texture help anchor her nicely... and the overall effect is dreamy. Makes me long for beach weather even more than I already do o_o *licks*

Her eyes are a little far apart, but I actually did that on purpose (no arms to make too long in this one!), so she'd be a little more exotic. :> As far as the hair goes, I was trying to make a more realistic approach to building it and was actually a bit inspired by some of your recent mixed media work.

*grins* it certainly does give her an exotic feel ^^ Making things imperfect in one way or another has such a way of adding character and interest... I just don't have the confidence to do it and not be worried about it feeling off.

Speachless...In my opinion, this is your masterwork Liz! You managed to make the Necklace almost real and the whole composition with backgrond has a very deeep hrmony! Colors are wonderful and delicate! NOt speaking of the great expression of her eyes and the creative tatoos on her face!
