This is one unique wearable item, likely to compliment the appearance of a mail skirt worn over dark material.

Very time-consuming piece of work. Neverending trial and error - brace yourself into patience and spare time.

And thanks

I'll have to get money put back for the wire though. I've got aluminum now, but it leaves the black smudges behind so we have to fix that before we make something clothing/armor style

And you're very welcome

brilliantly done. did you have a pattern in mind? or did you custom build it to the model?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Szyszuniec In reply to evenflow82 [2012-07-27 08:03:36 +0000 UTC]

Both. Firstly, I made some measurement, which I used to create first project. After first fittings, I had to correct the project a bit. Then it was a long period of trial and error. Some corrections in the end and the corset looks as it stands. It's not perfect, but acceptable.

Time-consuming first of all... Next, much smaller projects in progress.

Haha yeah it sure looks it! I've been telling myself I'm going to make myself a bikini (~1/8" rings E 4:1) but I haven't started it... mainly because I know once I start it I won't leave my house! D:

Szyszuniec In reply to ArmoredKoi [2012-07-18 17:59:38 +0000 UTC]

1/8" is unbelivable small. I'm not sure, if it is a good idea... I would estimate manufacturing time to 20-30h, which is adequate to make full (not-riveted) chainmail for historical reenactment. But I'm sure, it would look great

ArmoredKoi In reply to Szyszuniec [2012-07-18 19:15:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know. Since it's a personal project it's worth it. I'm using titanium too! (:

Have you ever done E 4:1 in 20G 1/8"? I haven't, and was wondering if it'd be too "see through" for a bikini... I could always do a test patch but..... lol.

It's transparent as hell. It would cover nothing. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of bracelets I made from rings of exactly those diameters (but in the real system - wire 0.8 mm ID 3+ mm, made of brass and/or silver).

I suggest to use a bit larger rings - like wire 1.2mm (my favourite) and ID ~4.5mm. It would be much stronger, more "street legal" and less time-consuming. However, it would be harder to manipulate with weaves.

I'm thinking about using titanium in the future - for now, it's stainless steel mostly.

Booooo.

Do you happen to know what gauge wire that is? I could always look it up I suppose.

Titanium is amazing to work with, and the finished product is equally awesome. I made a cuff using it and wear it almost every day. [link] (need to get a better pic)

I guess it's 16G or 17G. But seriously, how can civilised people use imperial measurements...

I'd like to experiment with titanium. Colouring it with acid sounds like real fun

How much does this bracelet weight?

ArmoredKoi In reply to Szyszuniec [2012-07-19 15:17:37 +0000 UTC]

Lol.

Ummm... working backwards from the estimated amount of rings I used... just over 2 ounces, plus the stainless steel clasps. (:

Such beautiful work! I love the addition of the half-persion to simulate the look of ribbing like a fabric corset-genius! Curious does it end up only being ornamental or does it add/change the structure at all?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Szyszuniec In reply to zoetic26 [2012-06-03 11:48:50 +0000 UTC]

Thank You very much!

If Your question is about HP3-1 rows - they are mostly ornamental. Although, they where very useful during project (I made them first, so I can just follow them fullfilling spaces with EU4-1), they hold the edges together (EU weaves are not very compact there) and I think, they carry most of weight of corset (not very important when it's just about 3kg).

And if You meant the whole corset - it works like corset

Yeah, for taking time xD It's hard to say, but I estimate work-time to ~50hrs. And the biggest problem with it are recurrent fittings - the model has to be patient.

I can make one for You for about ~500$. You know the drill - You can customize it alone.

But if You want to make it by Yourself - advices are free

Mainly euro 4-1 with HP3-1 trim and braces am I right? Nice piece, I just adore the swirly rings that the lace is tied into. Tell me: how did you make them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Szyszuniec In reply to IstraRaugir [2012-03-31 17:10:00 +0000 UTC]

I make all of my rings by myself. If i want to do those "swirly" ones, first i twist two pieces of wire and then make spring on a little bigger rod.
