Description Deinotherium giganteum. Pencil, 2008.

I drew the sketch for this work while I was in the museum in front of the skeleton of this really interesting beast. Unfortunately, my lack knowlegde about the prehistoric mammals and not enough expirience with drawing them probably ruined this piece.

Looks very accurate, and the lighting is believable.

It's still pretty though.

Incidentally, Deinotherium may have had a short, tapir-like snout instead of a long trunk.

Where have you seen that? the last I heard about this is that Deinotherium hasnΒ΄t such a complex trunk as the elephant but I think itΒ΄s a trunk as well.

It is a trunk, it's just shorter.

Thank you.

I think I have seen a reconstruction of Deinotherium with short snout but I wasn't sure it was accepted as a fact. That why I drew a trunk with medium lenght.

It's recently been brought up that Deinotherium was a huge tapir-analogue, with corresponding trunk. Not much else.
