Description Katniss from Hunger Games. This was for a project where I had to design a book cover out of a choice of three novels. So naturally, I chose one of two that I never read. The third, which was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies I DID start reading but...only the first chapter or two before I started.

I did the sketch on paper but after I added the color, you don't really see it anymore...and lineart for Katniss is done on Photohop :I

Her face could use some work (LOL). Also one of the few where I used textures. Actually the only one so far.... :'D

Thank you very much! :'D

I used a lot of references in this, especially on the character.

I was actually trying to go for a watching-your-back look but maybe she's happy inside... xD

Awesome :-D.....I've only read two out of the three books and have yet to see the movie. I like how you used the textures and the shading in this

I have yet to finish the first book (and I need to because it's pretty good!). I did see the movie although I tried to base this art by the book's description of Katniss instead of the one in the movie.

Ah, thanks! I was doing this as a project in my digital painting class. I learned to use textures but just subtle so they don't stand out too much!

:'D

^^ I really like your style. The angle you picked is great, too. So many people are leaning towards an anime style, which is nice and all, but I kind of like the looser ... I don't know, natural style. It has a lot of character to it. ^_^

Haha thanks! I actually used a reference for the pose - that's why the overall look to it is much more refined than my other artwork where I make up the form and shading as I go. The thing I don't like about this piece is the face - it could have been better... xD

When I was younger, I thought that using references was like cheating. Now I feel so silly for not using them more... Doesn't it just make everything better?

Don't worry, I felt the same way before too. Now I realize a lot of professions always work with references - it adds to having a believable and realistic product in the end.

I still get lazy and not use them though... :/

Thanks for liking it!

Sorry I made your stock look very subtle but it makes for a very good background fog...

Thank you very much! I was happy how it came out in the end.

This book cover project for my class was about five weeks so I had a lot of time to work on it throughout class. Just...only getting around to uploading it now because I had to find the stock images I used for textures :v

YAY!

Yah. I want to stay on the safe side just in case I do use textures on my own stuff and plan to sell later - I don't want to get into issues because I used a texture that has restrictions on them...
