didn't commission a background for this but I really wanted to add one, so here, a gift! Good practice for me too.Drawing grass strand by strand is hard or tedious but very worth it!

OMG WHUT! this is... amazing!! You hae really outdone yourself. I reall ylove the bg. It seems as if we have come upon Ed and Torr in their secret hideout or something. you did a very great placement of the grasses/tree/foliage whatever! SO amazing. I'm so lucky you decided to add the bg for free! you are quite talented with them. I really need help with bgs. Do you plan it out by sketching first? do you look at pictures for reference? I get so lost when I try to think of bg ideas!!

For the BG honestly I staredt out by putting blobs of colour on and adding other bits of scenery that seem to fit or look good as I add more detail. (after putting blobs/shapes all over, I start detailing with the furthest back detail first and work my way forward making depth/overlap). To make it easier to detail sometimes I make the BG in many layers for easy editing, with each BG object/section/lighting/overlay on it's own layer.
I often also do not have a plan for my end result of my BG so I can just change anything that doesn't seem right. I might sketch a BG sometimes but just slapping on colour is easier once you figure it out.No references used unless I am unsure of how something really looks. I also improvise colours every time and only use palletes for things like characters or anything else with a very specific colour.
I guess what has helped me the most was looking at every tutorial possible for digital painting and watched lots of Bob Ross(happy tree painting guy from TV), because they interested me and were fun. I also am very observant when I am anywhere, I notice things like "Oh so that's how a shadow falls on that object". I never purposely go out of my way to observe though, it just happens just like thoughts in your head happen.

Yes, white backgrounds are bleh! A few of my pictures have them but those are likely collabs.

A ton of my old pictures have white bg's, but that's before I discovered transparency.
