Don't let the sickle alarm you. She's not dangerous. This is Aileen, some friendly, malnurished peasant with a very striking mouth when it opens..I'm not really for character stats, you'll grow to love her when I get some comic pages done lD
Wanted to do some character portraits.. starting to see the huge task I've potentially taken on xD I was also feeling myself getting nearer and nearer hyperrealism and further and further away from my own style. As much as I like to be able to paint as realistically as possible, it's almost just a novelty. I like the slightly more blotched strokes and lies of colour you can add to things to make the piece more interesting. So, though more noticably on the skin, I've tried to edge towards that o: and I'm happy with it!

I had to compile all my doodles earlier and so i had to stare at them for quite some time because there were too many. SO NOW I'M LOOKING AT THIS, AND MY EYES ARE STINGING D: > there's like a shitload of details. Damnit, i can't look. I WANT TO LOOK, ARGH!!

Yeah xD modernish... and the seams on those trousers... I need to try not to get too modern. Must remember that not everything is possible in that era.

Believe it or not that coat of hers is new xD I gave her money to buy something so she wouldn't freeze in the winter, and then she went ahead and bought that thing l:I, Spent the rest of the money on food mind.

Oh that's supposed to be cracked, worn leather. I had some idea in my head of this large, thick leathery material that'd thinned in some areas and cracked away, possibly once padded.. but getting that right was difficult. I suppose something simalar to what's happening here: [link]

Ooh I remember about her in your comic! She is the one with the "big mouth", eh? xD I like how the hugeness of her jacket/sweater suggested that she is actually rather thin there, good luck in working towards hyperrealism!

That's an interesting notion about hyperrealism. When I saw this as thumbnail I wondered it was photograph or 3D or something. But it's great to see those brushstrokes there. They really add so much more life. ^^

Thankyou! And yeah. I love realism and hyperrealism to some extent, but, sometimes it's boring. Particularly when all you find yourself looking at is something apathetic, or say, an apple - still life. It can be good, but the content is important; I might as well just stare at a real apple? When an artist's gallery is full of flawlessly photographic paintings, the novelty/awe over the artist's ability to actually draw realism so convincingly wears off and you just find yourself starring at fruit or whatever. It doesn't hold my attention as much as it could have.
