A beautiful day in the monochrome world, if only i could mix colors and shade correctly...oh well anyway:

The soldier is wearing a new uniform blah blah, with a noticeable new parka suit actually, as the fall season is coming.

As for the two people near the tree, those are schoolgirls that are spending their free time in the valley ( the picture ) that is a few meters from their small town. however the area is still connected to major cities by the rapid train carrying goods and passengers and etc.

Also something to realize is the contrast of the peace and cleanliness of the landscape, to the puzzled soldier that can't figure out why the schoolgirls are relaxing when they should be worrying about the war ( in which case, the soldier was patrolling the outskirts for saboteurs ).

And yet...it's still calm and peaceful.
