Starfire sat with his legs hanging over the edge of the tower, resting her hand on her hand, watching the sun slowly sink into the ocean. Things were dull lately. Robin and Raven had been spending more time training recently, and as much fun as it could be with Cyborg and Beastboy she never felt wholly accepted in their videogame activities. And so she found herself on top of the Tower, killing time.

The sun had finally dropped and the moon was starting to shine over head, when the sound of alarms broke the quiet. Starfire was used to the sound, but it was still a little surprising, no matter how many times she’s heard it. Still, she rushed to the roof access elevator and hit the descend button. Nothing happened. After a few more presses of the button, Starfire abandoned the elevator and rushed to the stairs.

The alarms had been sounding for a solid minute before Starfire made her way back inside and to the central control room. The elevator system had stopped working, but flying up the stair shaft hadn’t been that difficult. Cyborg and Beastboy was already there, the former typing furiously at the computer terminal and the latter peeking over his shoulder, trying to see what was happening.

The door slide open behind Star as Robin and Raven came rushing into the room, Raven’s hood uncharacteristically down. They looked flushed, probably had to take the stairs like Star had, but on foot. “What’s going on?” Robin asked, rushing towards Cyborg.

“Something’s giving the city’s power grid the shaking of a lifetime. Lights are going on and off all over the place.”

“Livewire?” Asked Raven, maintaining her position besides Starfire, a distance back from the boys.

“Nah,” replied Cyborg without looking up, “That’s what’s weird. It’s not being drained away, it’s just freaking out. A big EMP could do this, but everything’d be fried if that happened.”

Beastboy blinked a few times. “EMP?”

“Electro Magnetic Pulse,” explain Cyborg, stepping back from the terminal, “Shorts out anything electronic. Here!” He tapped the scene, which was displaying a section of the city. A hazy blue dot was marked on the map and this was what the machine man was indicating. “That’s the source point. But it’s moving…” Indeed the blip was moving across the screen. It was moving fast too, crossing a few blocks as they watched.

“Ah ha!” Cyborg shouted as the light dimmed, then rose again, “That blip is putting out an EM field. Whenever it crosses the power lines…” He paused and watched the dot. It passed another of the marked power line sets and the light dimmed again, “Bingo. It disrupts the local power flow.” Just as he spoke, the screen cut out.

“Aw man,” said Beastboy, “What the heck? I thought we were on our own generator?”

“We are,” Cyborg began, elbowing Beastboy out of his way and hitting a few keys on the board, to no effect, “But I can’t run everything at once just off the generator. And besides,” the light dimmed again, and this time they stayed dim for a few moments, “Every surge is damaging the Tower’s systems. We gotta stop this thing soon or the whole electrical system is gonna fry.”

“Then let’s stop it,” replied Robin, tightening his gloves.

“I’ve got its last position,” continued Cyborg, turning to face Robin, “We can track it from there. The ship’s shielded from magnetic fields, so it should be fine.”

“Then let’s go!” Robin turned and raced for the hanger, with the rest of the Titans close on his heels.
