Description Another massive upload of the horns that were just recently painted. I had a huge order for 4x pairs of the black Astaroth style horns , and while casting those, I cast more of the different types of horns that I had floating around - no sense in wasting the extra material, right?

They were quick to paint, so they're not as dynamic as some of them in the past, but I like them none the less. Actually, I think I like them all, which is weird, I usually only like one or two per batch...

Anyways, these are all up on Etsy at the moment:
Lir Sea God [link]
Belial the Jester Harlequin [link]
Firey Unicorn [link]
Quetzalcoatl Succubus [link]
Black Ice Succubus [link]
Wicked Succubus [link]
Golden Gargoyle [link]
Gargoyle [link]
Golden Astaroth [link]
Gold-Tipped Gargoyle [link]

So! Yeah! A massive upload of images, I know, but I still like doing them like this. More pictures area available on the Etsy storefront, and will be up on my site whenever I get a chance to do another massive uploading of them there

I hope you like!

What do you make yours out of so that they're light enough to be held on by spirit gum alone? I make clay horns that I have to have tied down because they're heavier.

Hey! When are you going to be making more of the Astaroth Horns in the blue and black? And if you aren't, How much do you charge for some plain resin ones?

Casting them! Sculpt the original, make a mold, and cast them off It's a tricky deal, but quite a bit of fun, once you get the hang of it

What sort of materials would you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

taeliac In reply to Chebits [2009-05-31 23:16:37 +0000 UTC]

It depends on what I'm looking to do with them. There are a ton of different latex and urethane expanding foams out there, as well as rigid foams (I think those are only urethane-based). For molds, I prefer silicone, although latex is a lot cheaper to do - I highly recommend checking Smooth On for their products (they're pretty much all I use, as i can get them locally) - [link] - and the book "The Prop Builders Molding & Casting Handbook" - [link] - is the defacto book to learn out of

I really Like the Quetzalcoatl Succubus and the Wicked Succubus, but if I was to buy one it would most likly be the Gargoyle ones, fore the fact that I would want more simple ones for my self. However, I do like all of them a lot!!!

QUESTION: About How much do they cost?

taeliac In reply to Casual-0 [2009-05-20 15:09:49 +0000 UTC]

I hear you - I like more simple things myself, too, but sometimes, you need to just go all out with color!

I think they're between $15 and $30 or so~ it more or less depends on how much painting I need to do on them

They're incredible, I'm jealous of your casting abilities! (I fail at it. XD)

I especially like the gold ones, but they're all gorgeous! Great work!

These are only the successful one's - I wind up throwing out about 1/4 of the casts right now, and about half of the original molds just fail miserably XP Hence there haven't been new horn styles - the last ... 3 I tried to make, just simply sucked! I know the pain!

Thank you!!

StarsOfCASSiOPEiA In reply to taeliac [2009-05-09 18:54:47 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, but at least you get 3/4 success rate! Mine is more like 20%. (Granted, I haven't really done casting more than three or four times... but still. EPIC FAIL. No matter what I did. )

You're welcome!

taeliac In reply to StarsOfCASSiOPEiA [2009-05-10 03:45:37 +0000 UTC]

It took like one insane class and many an angry failure to get to this point

Casting is always epic fail. When it isn't, it's an utter miracle!

StarsOfCASSiOPEiA In reply to taeliac [2009-05-10 13:09:40 +0000 UTC]

You took a class on it? Cool! I just had to read up about it on the internet and try my best.

That sums casting up PERFECTLY.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

taeliac In reply to StarsOfCASSiOPEiA [2009-05-10 23:25:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, the class covered a lot of prop making, casting and shaping techniques, so... yeah. And the teacher sucked, but that was beside the point... it's still a pain to do!

If you're ever curious, this is the best book I've found on the subject: [link]

Oh, wow! Did you take this class at a college, or was it hosted by an art studio or something? I'd be really interested in taking it myself.

Thanks for the link! Now I want to go buy that boox. XD

taeliac In reply to StarsOfCASSiOPEiA [2009-05-14 17:27:09 +0000 UTC]

I took mine in college, but I had the crappy teacher who didn't really know how to teach (even tho she was fab at her own casting stuffs). You may be able to find something at just about any university in their theatre department, maybe. Otherwise, how we learned was by a lot of practice, and books like that I'll see if I can find the other one we used a bit, too~

StarsOfCASSiOPEiA In reply to taeliac [2009-05-15 10:20:37 +0000 UTC]

I kind of figured as such. I'm such a crazy kid, I go hunting through the books of the nearby colleges to see if there's any good classes I could take. (And preferably before I actually end up going to college. )

Practice is something I definitely need more of, that's for sure! Thank you very much for all your help!

Thank you so much!!

Well, I'm sure since it's mechanical mythos, you could make them fit.

Alchemical horns grafted ontop of the skin by ways of techno-mancy. Jus' sayin'...

And you're welcome, those horns are FABULOUS!

Must plan ahead, now XP Thank you!
