Chris (~kellin ) and myself in our Victorian Riding costumes, from the manga xxxHolic. He is Watanuki, and I am Yuuko.Not the best picture, but a good one showing the whole way I have to carry myself wearing this outfit, and kind of cute, too.
I created all the pieces of these costumes, many without the aide of a pattern. The pieces include:
Watanuki
+ Jacket: black cotton velvet, fully lined double breasted
+ Shirt: off white cotton with gold ribbon detailing
+ Pants: tan microfiber fall front trousers
+ Boots: purchased
+ Top hat: purchased and modified
+ Wig: purchased and styled
Yuuko
+ Corset: underneath, not visible, but fully steel boned and shaping
+ Shirt: off white cotton with gold ribbon detailing
+ Jacket: black and red cotton velvet, fully lined; pattern fully from scratch
+ Bustle with train support: from a pattern, steel hoop boning bustle for support
+ Underskirt: off white cotton with gold ribbon detailing, with 50+ yards of ruffles
+ Overskirt: black cotton velvet, 7 yards cartridge pleated into waistband
+ Bustle poof: off white cotton with gold detailing, support system internal to keep it's shape
+ Boots: purchased and modified to fit correctly
+ Parasol: purchased and painted, added ruffles
+ Crop: purchased and handle rewrapped
+ Hat: purchased and decorated
+ Wig: purchased and styled

Photoshoot done on May 28, 2007, in Grant Park in South Milwaukee, WI. Photos taken by my Uncle with his uber camera, but unfortuantely, he's not a very good photographer, so these few pictures were the best I have.

If I could carry around a parasol all the time, I totally would! The fishnets were a great find for me - usually, they don't fit cuz of my thighs being too big, but not only did they have plus sized one's, but they are fencenets, too! [link] is my dirty obsession XP

DO IT! there was a girl at a park today that was carrying an orange frilly parasol that she trimmed herself. it had rosettes and lace and it was crazy lol. she told me she sells them at flea markets and the like

It's a good manga, and not like what Clamp normally does (and nothing really like Tsubasa, the companion series) - it's a lot more mystical than anything, with fates and odd stories - reminds me a lot of Petshop of Horrors~

Although, I keep threating him with weird things... I'm thinking, mid bustle period (natural form, my favorite!)
I dunno - it's really weird. I found the original picture that inspired Yuuko's outfit from the Kyoto costume collection, but then it's like the artist just went to town with weird ideas and adding things like crazy, so it's not really a historic costume, but more like "history-ish" XP

That dress is insane! I love it!! The bodice is especially pretty, and really uniquely shaped. I love the bottom of it especially. And that ring
