PERSONALITY ✦
confident, driven, pensive | flirtatious, reserved, competitive | aggressive, stubborn, self-critical
confident: outwardly, brindlepaw is very self-assured and doesn't cease to appear that way unless put down by someone she respects or trusts, such as her mother or older siblings. her thoughts and ideas, she believes, are all worth hearing and justifiable and anyone who suggests otherwise obviously doesn't understand her intellect. not only does she seem to have faith in her mental abilities, but she feels the same about her physical abilities too. this trait propels her to naturally pursue the leadership role in any kind of function, whether it's a game or some kind of organized activity.
driven: from a young age, brindlepaw's parents instilled in her the value of dedication and diligence. she is an extremely hard worker and is passionate about anything she chooses to pursue. this is where the roots of her confidence lay, in the fact that she never stops trying and is always looking to improve.
pensive: though she may not seem the type, brindlepaw is quite a reflective cat. she enjoys spending time alone to absorb the day's events and consider her strengths and weaknesses. during these sessions of solitude, she often thinks about her flaws and resolves to be a better cat but she rarely follows through on her own advice. she believes very strongly in The Stars and often thinks about the ancestors that watch over her from the night sky.
flirtatious: even though brindlepaw has little to no knowledge of romantic relations and finds the idea of "love" to be silly and almost perturbing, she can often be found acting rather cheeky and coquettish, without any real intent of course, but flirtatious nonetheless.
reserved: brindlepaw can come off as cold and indifferent merely because she has a hard time sharing her feelings with others, much like her father. she tends to bottle things up until they overflow in some kind of explosive (and most likely embarrassing) display. her desire for approval and her foolish pride tend to butt heads because the former urges her to suppress her real emotions and force her reactions to take on a more palatable form for those around her, while the latter insists that she is right regardless of the situation, which makes her bitter.
competitive: she loves to win. any kind of competition in which she can show someone up is hard to resist. this includes verbal debates (more like arguments) in which she can display her intellect and "superiority. it's all too easy for brindlepaw to get wrapped up in something small and meaningless like a little quarrel, as her competitive nature is known to get the best of her.
aggressive: brindlepaw isn't very empathetic towards others and this lack of remorse comes along with her short-tempered nature. she tends to lash out at others if they upset her and this usually ends in someone getting hurt emotionally or physically if things really escalate. it's not necessarily intentional, she just finds her anger hard to control and it flares up when she feels hurt or vulnerable.
stubborn: she is immensely opinionated and it's hard to leave an argument between her without losing because of this. brindlepaw will stop at nothing until her point is proven, accepted, or at least acknowledged. her confidence makes this even more of a bother because she never really admits that she's wrong. more than anything, she hates to be pitied and even when she's struggling physically or emotionally she will reject any attempt to help.
self-critical: the core of brindlepaw disposition is her self-consciousness. she feels as though those around her disapprove of her no matter what, even if it isn't true, and because of this, she beats herself up often. all she really wants is the approval of her parents. it branches off into her hardworking nature but she never seems to be satisfied with her accomplishments unless someone praises her for them.
strengths: fast/agile, dedicated, funny
weaknesses: impatient, pessimistic, not very strong
likes: nighttime, frogs, climbing anything, cool weather, playing tricks on others, flirting
dislikes: being lied to, braggers, burrs, hot weather
fears: foxes, snakes, birds (could just appear out of nowhere and pluck you from the ground!), quicksand (only heard stories about it, unsure of its existence but still afraid)
faith: firm believer in the stars, prefers not to think of its dark counterpart
FAMILY & HISTORY ✦
mother: clover (npc, deceased)
father: leo (npc)
sisters: none
brothers: kip (npc, deceased)
offspring: none
preface: clover was a grey tabby she-cat who was raised outside of rootclan territory in a small band of peaceful loners. her parents taught her to hunt and how to defend herself but she seldom used those skills. their life was simple and most of the time was spent wandering and exploring as a group. in her travels, clover met a rogue bengal tom named leo who joined their group for a moon or so. throughout the days they spent together, clover became enamored with leo and she was tempted to leave her group to join him when it came time for him to part ways. clover's mother was incredibly averse to this decision and she expressed her distrust of the tom openly. despite this, clover left and it wasn't long before she and leo were expecting kits. leo led clover to a territory that was unfamiliar to her and they settled down in an abandoned fox den to make a comfortable home for their future family. it was leafbare when clover gave birth to two kits, one a tawny tom-kit with the same markings as his father, and the other a small mousey grey she-cat with interesting marbled markings. the tom-kit was named kip and the she-cat was named nellie.
kithood:
though leafbare complicated things, both kits lived to see newleaf and things were looking up. however, at around two moons of age, nellie and her brother were playing outside when a fox began approaching the clearing. leo was out hunting and clover was in the mouth of the den, dozing off. it seemed that the previous resident of the den was returning to reclaim its abode. everything happened so fast, the fox lunged out of the bushes and snatched kip up, shaking the tom-kit harshly and waking clover. nellie was so shocked she couldn't move, but her mother raced past her and began to attack the fox in a desperate bid to save her son. the fox tossed kip to the side and nellie finally ran to her brother who was unresponsive. in the meantime, clover tussled with the fox and though she received a number of serious wounds, she kept fighting until the russet creature fled into the bushes. by the time leo returned from his hunt, both clover and kip had passed away in the clearing, leaving nellie shaking and silent in the deepest part of the den. leo was heartbroken and he grew reclusive, so stricken with grief that he couldn't care for nellie adequately. after burying his mate and son, leo and nellie left to go find clover's former group. having moved on, the group was nowhere to be found and leo, in his grievous delusion, left nellie beneath the orphan tree in rootclan territory. the following day, nellie was found by a rootclan patrol and brought back to the camp. she was confused and shy at first but they were nothing but warm and caring to her. when she was around three moons old, nellie was given the name brindlekit for her markings and she felt at home. brindlekit spent the following moon hanging around the older she-cats who frequented the nursery, particularly doveheart; however, by around four moons more kits were showing up and brindlekit, after some hesitation, began to interact with them. she spent time with mumblekit and hickorykit predominantly but enjoyed the company of others as she got closer to her apprenticeship.
apprenticeship:
from the beginning of her apprenticeship, brindlepaw was incredibly intent on being the best. she liked her mentor, rainsplash, who was a well-respected warrior that challenged brindlepaw. she struggled at first with comparing herself to her fellow apprentices but as the first few weeks rolled by she found her confidence swelling and her outlook changing. around the same time, the infighting amongst her peers raged onwards and brindlepaw's patience was wearing thin. she attempted to interject on several occasions but soon decided that staying out of it would be best. there was plenty of negative energy swirling around camp but it spiked once more as members of the clan began leaving camp, never to return. the cause of these disappearances was unclear at first, but suspicions were plentiful and it soon came out that foxes had been preying on their clanmates. brindlepaw was alarmed upon hearing this revelation but it didn't deter her. she turned back to her training with more fervor than before and prepared herself for whatever the future held in store. when the patrol was attacked in snakewood forest, brindlepaw began to panic internally but she only informed rainsplash of her fear, facing the rest of her clanmates with a mask of stoicism. there was a period of peace between the patrol's encounter and what was yet to come; with this time, brindlepaw worked herself to the point of exhaustion and beyond. she trained all day and slept only when she could no longer keep her eyes open. brindlepaw's friends were few since she rarely socialized but this didn't occur to her at the time. the fox attack on camp came out of seemingly nowhere and brindlepaw launched herself into the battle without a second thought. she fought well but at one point the fox caught ahold of her left ear and tore the upper half off, eating it. the remainder of the fight was horrific, ending in the death of whiteberry and subsequently, the vixen. brindlepaw was exhausted and eventually retreated to the medicine den to get her ear treated. it was in the medicine den that she began to ruminate on her social life, observing the love and concern expressed amongst the other apprentices who sustained injuries. brindlepaw found herself lonely and made it a goal to make more friends in her remaining moons of apprenticeship. the final battle with the foxes occurred without brindlepaw but she felt the relief in her bones upon the patrol's return.
