Description
These are the good guys to a new Sentai idea I've been playing with for a long while, featuring a good vs evil team in the same season (kinda like Lupat, but the bad Sentai are the actual evil forces of the season, would have no human forms, and are irredeemable). The heroes' name is Eihei Sentai Jitenger (衛兵戦隊ジテンジャー, lit. Sentinel Sentai Rotation-ger). Their mission is to guard humanity from evil's desired apocalypse. Their motifs are elemental powers and animals and their gimmick is the ability to swap out their visors and associated abilities. The villains, the Omenger, can be found here: www.deviantart.com/taiko554/ar…
"The burning red! Jiten Pyro!"
"The tidal blue! Jiten Hydro!"
"The shocking yellow! Jiten Electro!"
"The blowing violet! Jiten Aero!"
"The rugged brown! Jiten Geo!"
"The freezing cyan! Jiten Cryo!"
"The lively green! Jiten Xylo!"
"The iron gray! Jiten Metallo!"
"The shining gold! Jiten Helio!"
"Eihei Sentai...Jitenger!"
Pyro, Hydro, and Electro are the starting three rangers at episode one; and are shortly joined by Aero and Geo. Then akin to Kyoryuger, they discover Cryo, Xylo, and Metallo over the next dozen or so episodes. Helio is the typical "sixth ranger" of the team even though he's the ninth ranger. Their elemental chest insignias relate to their rank: the number of shapes within tell you their rank order. These were actually the first things I designed for the team and I'm pretty damn happy with them.
Their animal motifs give the rangers extra abilities, and these animal motifs (and visors) can be rotated among the main eight rangers. Their visors also change which of eight positions the gold arrow points on their chest insignia. Their default forms are the best suited element and animal pair. In the same order as above, the animal motfis and their granted abilities are: tiger, force fields; shark, elasticity; grasshopper, speed; falcon, flight; bull, strength; wolf, heightened senses; monkey, telepathy; iguana and durability. I'll be uploading another picture of the various crosses of element and animal just to show what each looks like. Their super forms on the bottom represent a unification of all these special abilities. Their super forms also grant a new animal motif for them (cuz you gotta sell toys from that mecha zoo): lion, whale, kabuto, condor, elephant, polar bear, orangutan, alligator.
Helio actually has four animals representing the four seasons and directions, is able to access all their various abilities along with his own unique power of teleportation. His visor alludes to his four-point theme, and it doesn't rotate among others. Helio's animals are: tortoise, winter and north; eel, spring and east; peacock, south and summer; panda, west and autumn.
I actually really like how the colors work, how it gives some lesser-used Sentai colors a chance to be used. I know, I know, I gotta stop using violet and use pink more in my OC teams, but I dunno; I just didn't like how pink worked as the main color for Aero. I also like the idea of a Sentai team changing out their visors, kinda like the line shifts in Toqger, but not changing their colors or elements. I just think it's funny that one pairing would be typically nonsensical, like fire and shark. I struggled with how I wanted the helmets to look and it finally clicked once I decided to kinda go the Ryusoulger route with a teeth-like pattern within the visor instead of along its trim.I did play around with the first five (Pyro, Hydro, Electro, Aero, and Geo) being the only ones who got a super mode, but it didn't feel right. And that leads me to another thing: I really like idea of using Greek/Roman roots for their actual ranger names. It makes them unique among other teams I've made.
And yes, this idea quickly became "Sentai meets Bionicle" for me. I even had a few of the old Toa/Toa Nuva out on my desk as I worked on the team. The multicolored suits and visor changing gimmick are definitely inspired by the Toa's look and masks. I've been trying to think of a way to do a "Toa Version" of the Jitenger suits, just haven't worked it out quite well yet. Someday though.
Everything here is my hard work. Please don't touch anything without permission. Thanks!
