Description
This was my first, and my favorite sculpture I made when I worked at Camp Geronimo.
I initially started making him as a joke, because everyone knew I was a pokemon nerd, and they were just waiting for me to make something. XD
But let me tell you... This guy was a MONSTER to make.
The shell, and body had to be made as separate pieces, and he had to be made hallow. Otherwise it would possibly explode in the Kiln.
After I got the rough shape, (head, neck, ears, horn, body, and flippers) I had to let it dry so I could carve details.
Well, by the next morning, a flipper broke off. And in the process of scratching, scoring, soaking, and re-applying, ANOTHER one fell off.
And when I was on my way to put him back on the drying rack, I got glomped by one of my co-workers....
AND ALL 4 FLIPPERS FREAKING BROKE.
So, I gave up on the flippers, and started making the waves.
That turned out a LOT better then I thought it would.

After getting the mouth carved, and everything smoothed out with Slip, I let it dry for about 3 days.
The Shell was EASILY the hardest part. I went through 4 different trials, and the shell is actually hallow inside.

After letting all that settle, It was fired.
I was looking through the glazes, and I realized that we did not have all the right colors.
I asked my boss, Sam about it, and he said that mixing glazes, unlike mixing paint, can be tricky. Because Glazes are chemicals, and not pigments.
So, the yellow, the grays, and the blue for the eyes, were all mixed by hand, and I prayed for 12 hours that it turned out ok.
<3 As you can see, its pretty awesome. -I think~ -
It took a total of 3 weeks to make this guy... and I don't even want to know how many hours.
He stands about 9 inches tall, and the shell totally removes, and I keep all manner of silly things in it. <3
