Description Glad to see they preserved this. To the left are several large industrial sites and directly across the old 2 lane street are more industrial sites. 18 wheelers up and down this small road every minute but at least this graveyard was preserved. To the right about 10 yards is a major 6 lane divided highway.

I am glad it is preserved too.  We should not forget the cost of war, in any era.  In 1982 I went on vacation to Knoxville, Tennessee to the World's Fair with a friend.  She and I took our vacations at the same time even though we worked for different companies.  We drove from Southwest Kansas.  We went to a lot of places while we were down south.  I had never been that far south and it was a really wonderful education for me. We went to Nashville,  New Orleans, went to Oak Alley and many other places.  We visited a Civil War Cemetery in Franklin, Tennessee and I cried when I realized that even in death the men were separated by the choices of what side they had fought on.  I could not wrap my mind around that fact.  Perhaps I am naive in those ways, I don't know, but it made an impression that I have never forgotten.
Sorry, didn't mean to get carried away.  Thanks for sharing this!

I was born and raised in a rural town in PA. Moved into the south soon after and learned a lot about our countries history. I hate now days they want to remove history like it never happened.

It bothers me greatly too, Russ!  We can look at history and see clear back to the ancient Egyptians that mankind has tried to hide the truth by defacing it.  Problem is we don't learn if we hide the truth.  Of course I don't think we learn anyway, as a species.

The problem is not what is written or carved in stone but the darkness of the human heart and how we have treated our fellow beings while we are here.  Destroying the truth doesn't change it or mean it never happened!

After the war, I was told by a tour bus driver in Savannah, that the city covered all the Civil War graves over in asphalt and then concrete.

Progress was inevitable, and better to progress through the pain of the civil war is what the city decided.
Don't know if you have ever been to Savannah, but the spirits there are not put off by a little concrete at all...

Great capture Russ...I am a huge Civil War Buff and love to see photos like this

They are trying to destroy history here in GA. I understand why but you can't change history no matter how hard people try. I've been to beautiful Savannah many times. I really enjoyed the heart of the city with all those old townhouses on the square being rebuilt.

I could live in Savannah, truly Russ....

Yes, it was sad to see and hear that many people want to do
away with the past, but the ghosts persist...The ghosts always
persist and there is a very big following of the History Of Georgia
if a person really searches for it and finds their tribe that is as
interested in history as I am...

It really took somebody some effort to preserve it with all the industry being built in that area.
