Yes, it is common, but there is always a first time when we see it

They like to live in conifers because of the cones. In our region we have more conifers than nut trees, so they have to eat the cones and berries and mushrooms etc.

But they climb up my legs when I attract them with hazelnuts and walnuts

Right...they bury all under bushes and leaves in around Apt walls and shrubs..I know they cant remember but the whole crew burys so many you see hands and nose fishing around...till the find one...right now theres acorns aplenty so eatn more than buring...fat like ground hogs...lol

Because we are only people, alot of times we don't realize that our
feeders are only for supplemental feedings during the cold winter
and the animals have lots of food sources that we don't even know
about....I too love learning new stuff every day Russ
