Ew no
I absolutely hate that program. It fucked up my old computer and I couldnt figure out how to even use it without a tutorial. I was able to teach myself how to use blender.
Plus, blender:
--is free
--is EXTREMELY powerful
--is Easy to understand
--has an animation system comparable to that of 3DS MAX and Maya
--and is extremely versatile
So, blender for me. :3

Eh?
I make my own content for video games. Im getting into the video game industry myself.
I'm confident in saying that I am quite good for a 'rookie'.
I use Google SketchUp, Blender, and WordPad for making my stuff. Who needs 3DS MAX, I can do just as good if not better with programs that are much easier to get ahold of. <3

I would say that I'm a sort of keyboardist wanna-be; I can play piano pretty well, but I absolutely suck at chords. The fingering is just too much. :S

Well, I can make Add-Ons for a torque game; mainly just weapons, but Ive made playertypes and such as well.

I suggest you move on to UDK or Unity.

Takato14 In reply to eots1 [2011-04-03 21:01:27 +0000 UTC]
But I have no clue what those are, plus I dont make games as a profession, I just make weapons and such for my game because it has an Add-Ons system.

eots1 In reply to Takato14 [2011-04-04 00:12:25 +0000 UTC]
They are free, popular engines. They are far better than torque, and easier. If you did some searching you would have quickly fallen upon them.

Takato14 In reply to eots1 [2011-04-04 01:07:10 +0000 UTC]
But I make Add-Ons for an existing game, not build an entire game myself from scratch.
I'll stick to torque for now until I find myself in an actual school for this stuff.

eots1 In reply to Takato14 [2011-04-04 17:07:07 +0000 UTC]
I am 13 and I can use most engines perfectly well. Making a game off a game engine is basically modding.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Takato14 In reply to eots1 [2011-04-04 17:14:39 +0000 UTC]
But the engine is basically the operating system of the game itself... nothing about the game is programmed into the engine, the engine only interprets your script and code. You have to start from scratch.
I'm 17 and have never actually made a concrete effort to learn extensive scripting or make my own game. I'm more of a modeler than a scripter, probably something I'll never completely change.

UDK is great for that purpose. More graphics features than any other. (It is basically a free UE3)

Takato14 In reply to eots1 [2011-04-06 02:11:36 +0000 UTC]
UE3 = ?
Anyways, Im not looking into making any full games, Im just trying my hands in a modeling software to give myself some experience over someone just starting to learn when they go to school for stuff like this.

eots1 In reply to Takato14 [2011-04-06 20:05:38 +0000 UTC]
Unreal Engine 3.
If you don't know how to model for it, you have no advantages. It is THE industry standard.

Takato14 In reply to eots1 [2011-04-07 04:11:37 +0000 UTC]
I thought so.
Besides. Mesh is mesh. The only things that differ from engine to engine are the heirarchy and rigging process, minus certain complications (i.e.: Torque with transparency/translucency, Source with primitive faces, etc) of course.
I meant experience modeling in general. I dont mean to brag, but I have gotten quite good at it by making modifications for that Torque game.

I would think that most people dont learn to do that at the age of 16. (I'm 17, but Ive been doing this for about a year or so)

Nice models. The difference is, however, that Unreal supports bump mapping, normal mapping, and environment mapping.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Takato14 In reply to eots1 [2011-04-08 01:35:10 +0000 UTC]
what IS bump mapping, anyways...
And, Torque supports all of those; all three are options in the DTS exporter.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
eots1 In reply to Takato14 [2011-04-08 01:42:12 +0000 UTC]
Bump mapping is basically setting shading points.
Just what version of torque are you talking here? The torque you told me is Torque V1.5-1, as any beyond that are Torque 3D Products.
But Unreal Engine is more optimized. It was built to push the most polygons with the least amount of lag. If you doubt me, just download it. It is free.
