Description It is an original illustration. This character is a "man"!!
Even among the several existing statues of David, I found inspiration for this work in the consciously boyish/feminine carvings of Donatello’s “David” statues. How many times did I redraw their faces, were they any good? Even now I worry.

Sorry, I can't speak English.><

I love the style, and I can clearly see where The David influenced you ^^ I love the idea that not all men who are strong have to be personalized that way. I think the feminine features adds a whole new dimension, like when they tell you to fear the charming and quiet ones. ^^ Bravo

When I first saw this illustration, I almost fell from my chair: apart from some details (red instead of blue, different haistyle, etc...), I had the impression to see the main male character from something I'm writting in those days. And I'm not only talking aesthetically, but also the feelings that transpire between knight and dragon.

First of all, in the real world, no one gives a damn about your opinion, ESPECIALLY if it has nothing to do with you, at all. The only time anyone cares for your opinion is when someone asks you directly. For example "What's your favourite movie? why do you like/dislike it?".

I understand what you mean though, and okay that you don't like a feminine face on a masculine body, but no one else but you care, so why share your opinion when it interests no one else but you? keep it to yourself, it's usually for the best. The internet is a clusterfuck of butthurties, and they will rage at you for the littlest thing. And usually when you post your opinion, a flame war will commence.

have a nice day sir.

"no one gives a damn about your opinion" Well, you seem to, since you bothered typing an elaborate reply

"why share your opinion" Oh, maybe I missed something, but I thought we still have freedom of speech. So I can share whatever I like

Good day to you, too

SmidgeFish In reply to Edarneor [2013-05-26 21:45:23 +0000 UTC]

I didn't necessarily care about your opinion, I just wanted you to know. But it's up to you how you want to perceive me.

The artist would probably not care a lot about your opinion about general feminine heads on masculine bodies, if I were the artist I wouldn't. That would be your problem, not mine. Do you see what I mean here? I personally don't know the artist so I can't say this for sure, but I know how most people think and feel about situations like this.

Oh and remember, I ain't no enemy of yours. I'm just saying, because some people thing I'm raging even though I'm not ^^ I have no idea what I'm doing wrong... anyhow. Have a nice day still!

Thanks :3

Aye, we do... But somehow there still exist generally accepted guidelines in art. Like not putting womans head on mans body.

I've seen men that have feminine faces and buff bodies. You racist.
Though to be honest with you, I don't get your distaste for it, I think it is a generally fine piece of art and a beautiful concept.

Edarneor In reply to WacRam [2013-05-26 18:33:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, there is a whole bunch of things in reality that don't get depicted in paintings often..

WacRam In reply to Edarneor [2013-06-01 08:19:43 +0000 UTC]

I think you don't know art I'm sorry to say.

It's the other way around. There's a lot of things in paintings that don't get depicted in real life often.

I for one have seen abstract mathematical concepts been painted and that should say something about all the other things that would be painted if that were painted.

And whatever concept you have of rules in art, there are none.

Edarneor In reply to WacRam [2013-06-02 11:31:40 +0000 UTC]

Please think and read before you reply - it makes conversation so much easier. And while you're at it - you can try and find ten famous paintings of a gearbox, or, say, a crankshaft. Then we'll talk about what gets painted often.

"whatever concept you have of rules in art, there are none" - and because of people who think like this, tons of crappy "modern art" still multiply. It's sad, really But thanks for uncovering the mystery...

WacRam In reply to Edarneor [2013-06-10 20:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Read and think before I reply?

Well, just to not start a flame war containing no good arguments, I'm not going to say that you need to revise your own ways also.

Art is expression of the concepts the artists have in their minds.
Whether it's a white picture containing only 1 black dot, it's a concept one artist want to convey to the viewer.
The arts have much good and bad within them. Which is to say, there's good artists and there's bad ones.
Painting a male person with a female face or persona is usually a message of divinity, or was so in 'older' times...
I for one if painted, would look like a woman if only my face were the indication to my gender.

Which is also a good argument for why your 'this is not right' argument is just weird.

The only rules in art is your own perspective, Death, adultery, weird, awesome, shit and weirder stuff to make art of have been made 'art' of so...

Generally accepted guidelines in art? Would you kindly explain where did you hear/read that? Also, when was that established?
What bout the drawings from ancient times where animals had human heads or the drawings/paintings of Egyptian gods with animal heads on human bodies? Does that mean, the generally accepted guidelines have changed?

As I am aware, art is something one uses to express his/her own thoughts and ideas.

Generally people have no limit to what they can imagine, so I don't quite understand why would anyone limit themselves to certain rules/restrictions?
In all honesty that sounds more like something from the times when Hitler was in power and banned certain forms of art/music because he found it unfitting for his "taste".

I personally believe it is because you were raised to believe so. There are no "generally accepted guidelines". Anyone can draw anything. By limiting an artist with some imaginary "guidelines" they can't cross, just massively limits the creativity and progress of an artist.

Even if this wasn't "generally accepted", it doesn't matter anymore. It probably was in 1400s or something like that or before. But right now, this is more than normal. A lot of artists do this and "worse" things. And it'll only get "weirder" from here. Welcome to the modern world. Welcome to the...future.

Edarneor In reply to DeadBlushies [2013-05-27 06:57:46 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks for your reply!
You seem to be new to this whole art thing, so I'll explain.

Yes, you are correct about Egypt and such - art has a rich and long history, and the guidelines evolve and build up upon the past ones, to come to what we have today.
These guidelines are basically what they teach you in art schools: light, perspective, composition etc, etc.

Yes, you can break them and you are free to do so. And yes, anyone can draw anything. But our brain perceives visual info in a certain fixed way, like it or not. So the violation of these "rules" (e.g. a painting with wrong perspective) causes visual discomfort. Which I was talking about earlier.

"A lot of artists do this and "worse" things." - a lot of people take dark and blurry snapshots of themselves with a greasy phone camera, and upload them anywhere (modern world, hey ). Are these pleasant to look at?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DeadBlushies In reply to Edarneor [2013-05-27 10:03:26 +0000 UTC]

If it does perceive in a fixed way, how come I do not find it as a "violation of these rules" while you do? Again, it just boils down to what you're comfortable with and how society could have influenced the individual to adapt to new mediums and before unseen works/images/events.

Yes, those guidelines you speak of do tech how light and perspective along with composition works. But it is up to the artist how to use them. I don't know where did you learn your guidelines but I haven't heard any of my art professors mention that you shouldn't combine masculinity with femininity.

Seems like I just keep getting back to that "It's just the way each individual perceives art". A personal opinion. There's no set of rules saying it should be done otherwise. All of these positive comments here are just proof that it doesn't have to follow this or that. Many people enjoy it. And comparing to something like crappy face-shots with greasy cammeras is just unfitting. They aren't aimed to be the "same" kind of art as one created from ones mind.
Self-shots are just of individuals trying to take pretty pictures of themselves, while art like this here is trying to do something new and influence the feelings of the viewer. I believe it is doing a great job since people are reacting to the way it was made.

There's no "wrong" or "right" just a set of opinions in the end.
