Personality:

Dante is a rather quiet individual. He is hard-working and well-mannered, and likes to push himself to achieve his goals. He is generally reserved, not speaking unless spoken to, aside from greetings. However, he can become straightforward and blunt if he is irritated by someone or something, and is not afraid to openly voice his opinions. He is also very forward in his opinions where it really matters. Dante does not express emotions very well, and keeps his face neutral for the majority of the time. When he does show emotion, although rare, it is likely to be through smiling or laughing, in which he would cover it up with his hand. He does not anger easily, and always remains calm and levelheaded in a dangerous situation or fight. Dante generally keeps to himself, and can be considered a loner. However, this does not mean he dislikes company nor companionship. In fact, he rather enjoys good company, as long as they do not annoy him or force him out of his comfort zone.

Dante's outer appearance may make him like a strict, no-nonsense person with no desire to socialise, and his actions and mannerisms do not prove otherwise. However, he has simply lost the ability to express himself clearly, and his emotions have dulled ever since the 'incident' (to be explained in History). This may cause misunderstandings and misconceptions, which in turn tends to isolate him further from people than he already does himself. He has learnt to deal with this by first convincing himself (or failing to, even) that he is fine without companionship, and second, by being very forward and blunt about his thoughts so that his point gets across clearly enough for others to understand.

History:

Dante was born into a wealthy family of high class, typical to that of a Heart Faction resident. His parents were grand duke and duchess, and his younger sister, a duchess. He himself was a duke, and was brought up to be a gentleman fitting of that status. His family were loving and kind, and although he did not see his parents often due to their busy schedule, he had his sister to keep him company, along with the maids and butlers of the House. Dante was studious and hard-working, excelling in his studies and behaving in a manner expected of him. He was kind, gentle, and happy. He enjoyed his life, and although it was strict at times, with heavy duties resting on his shoulders, he took them all with pride and determination. His sister was very supportive, and looked out for him despite also having her own duties and expectations to live up to. They were strong siblings, pushing themselves to accomplish all that they can and be all they could be.

But they weren't strong enough.

What started off one day as a small fire turned into a raging inferno, and half of the Russo residence was burnt down to ashes. Dante was out shopping for trinkets and ribbons for his sister, whose birthday was the next day, while his sister remained indoors for private lessons. His parents were out due to business, and so only his sister and the maids and butlers were inside when the incident occurred. The fire started mere moments before Dante returned home from shopping, and his first thought when he saw what had happened was to find his sister. Unfortunately, the blaze was too intense, and he could only venture halfway into the main hallway before his path was blocked, by both debris and flames.

Hours later, the fire had stopped, but not after taking many casualties and valuables. Among the casualties were the Head Butler and Nurse, both of whom were quite close to the siblings. Two others were maids. They were taken to a repairman as soon as possible, and were back on their feet in no time. There was one fatality, however. His sister. She had been trying to escape, only for her path to be blocked by the flames. While the mansion was burning down, a beam fell from the ceiling and onto her, effectively trapping her and leaving her to burn and break. Dante ventured in once the path had been cleared, hoping that his sister's clockheart remained intact, only to find the broken pieces scattered on the ground. It had turned out that another beam fell onto her clockheart not long after her already broken body burned and disintegrated from the heat, shattering it completely. The fire was an accident that got completely out of control. This did not stop Dante from blaming himself, however. Had he been stronger, he could have resisted the heat, or moved the debris that was blocking his path, and the way to his sister.

At that moment, studying and getting good recognition from others did not matter anymore. It couldn't help him save his sister. He felt weak, lost, and alone. After the incident, he stopped smiling. He became quiet, reserved, and isolated. He took his sister's death upon himself as a burden of guilt, and vowed to become stronger to be able to protect his loved ones, so that he would not have to go through that feeling of weakness again, and as atonement for failing to protect his sister. It was then that he chose to pursue the path of a Knight. His parents disapproved greatly, as it would mean the stripping of his title as a noble, but he did not care. Being a noble no longer meant much to him, and he was determined to become stronger. So, he renounced his title, and began to train towards Knighthood.

Periods later, he achieved this, honing both his body and mind, and feeling stronger than ever. He does not regret giving up his high status, and his parents are still proud of him despite his lower nobility, as they have seen what he has achieved through his life choice. After blood, sweat, and tears, and much time and effort, he has become a true Knight of the Royal Order, and is now known as 'The Dark Knight'.

Additional info:

He carries a gold necklace with a heart pendant with him everywhere he goes. It was the birthday present he bought for his sister moments before she had died, and it is his most treasured possession. He does not often let it be seen in public, and others touching it is forbidden.

If he smiles or laughs in front of you without hiding it with either his hand, or by turning away, that's a very good sign. It means that he is trying to open up to you, and that he has no issues with letting you see these other sides of him.

He has pyrophobia due to the incident with his sister. While he usually has a neutral expression on his face, if near fire, no matter how big or small it is, he will outwardly and openly show signs of fear and will grab the hilt of his sword, not letting go until he is calm again.
