What pencils do you use? Try 7, 8, and 9B type of pencils for the darkest shades. Or try another lighting scheme when you photograph your works

Yeah I usually use 2, 4 and 6B for the black in my drawings, and my scaner is not the best I might get some of those pencils. But I am just an amateur and this a hobby so I cannot spend too much money in materials

The last pencils I bought, which I used for this portrait too, were in a pack of 4 pieces: 5 to 8 B. It was 2$, regular price, in a local supermarket. You see, I'm not a pro, either.  
What do you think about taking photos of your works instead of scanning them? Before you take the photo you can set up a better lighting and your piece would look in the photo as it looks in reality.

The photography thing sounds cool, I might try it And see, I am argentinian and here the prices are kinda ridiculous for stuff that are not produced locally (which are most things actually ) so I have to buy carefully. Other hobbies of mine, like gaming, is too much expensive sometimes

That's why I chose the image in the first place but I had a hell of a time finishing the hair, like 3 out of the 5 total hours. I'm so glad you like the outcome
