I sketch out the basic shape with a 4H pencil, then I fill in the details with a .5 mechanical pencil, then I go over it with a fine ball point pen, then I shade with that same pen or use a sharpie if I want to create something really dark. I also have some colored sharpies for coloring, which I just received.
Thanks again!

Oh, cool! It's actually hard to tell that it's a ball point pen. I never could trust ball points with that kind of thing. What brand do you use? Also, wouldn't a mechanical pencil risk too heavy a line?

You're actually right on both parts. Micron pens give a more precise line, but I'm really heavy handed and tend to break them very fast. I use Pentel RSVP, fine pens simply because they were readily available and they seem to hold up and allow me to be reasonably precise. As for the mechanical pencil, like I said, I have really heavy hands, so I do have problems with the heavy lines, which are difficult to erase, so I've been trying to phase out that step and instead just to go straight to inking.

Oh, I see! Do you also use the ballpoints to do the hard shading? Or do you use the sharpies for that part? I would like to suggest not using the mech pencil and maybe trying to use a 2H pencil. The lines are light, sure, but they're also easier to erase, and I don't think heavy handedness is too much of an issue with it.

While I don't take requests in any formal sense, I'm generally willing to give it a try. It all depends on what the person requesting the drawing wants.

Shouldn't it really be the other way around? I mean, you're asking me to do something for you...shouldn't you be the one to come to me about it?
