Description
My stock eye. Inspired by a bit of darkness in my soul, and inspiration from the humble crow.
Here is a story to go with the picture.
I was dreaming, dreaming of you, but I got lost.... and found my way to a nightmare. It met me, grinning wide, with dark eyes... it took me to it's lair. I really didn't want to go, it was dark, I was afraid. But deep down, I knew the truth, through a world of nightmares I was made. I followed close, my terror building... It kept looking back to make sure I followed. The darkness took over, I couldn't see anything but the toothy grin, and it's eyes so hollow. I felt so empty, I couldn't breath. I choked, sputtered, tried to cough or heave... The nightmare looked down with spite and glee. We were in his lair, I knew, but couldn't see. My breath choked by painful hate, the nightmare descended and lay on top of me. It was heavy, my breath was gone. My lips felt cold, my mind went black. My body felt pressed, I tried to fight, but my strength failed, my arms and legs went slack. I felt its teeth dig into my scalp. Tore my flesh, pulled my hair. But with a horrible emptiness, I knew I didn't care. It could take me, devour my flesh and blood. I never mattered, I never would. It peeled my skin, it clawed my ribs, holding me down with the weight of a grudge. The pain unbearable, but I was silent. Silent as the grave. I was to far gone to ever be saved. Why cry a tear, why let out a breath of pain? I deserved this. I was always to blame. Every memory was crafted out of choices that brought only shame... Suddenly I was light, the nightmare rose. Stood over me, deep and morose. Sorrowful, yet satisfied at the brokenness I could no longer hide. My bare bones showed the deepest dark inside the place where I once had a heart. Tendrils of hate poured fourth from my chest, shots of shame and deep unrest. They formed a cloud above my head, looming, drawing from my heart so dead. A mirror appeared, with broken glass, and I finally saw what I had become. A faceless grin, with hollow eyes, littered with grayness from a broken past. I was a nightmare, the hopeless dark. With pain so deep, and naked sorrow, stark. I was the image of a chance so lost. I was the bad decision, and how much the consequence cost. Everything bad held inside a heartless corpse, I had become everything a nightmare needed to steal the minds of the innocent. The mirror began cracking worse than it started out, it crumbled... And behind these cold eyes I felt humbled, if only because I had no pride left. The darkness around began to lift. A light was dawning, early, gray.. a gift of light out of the blackened cold. Then I see the lights source, the nightmare is being slowly transformed. The change was slight, then became coarse, a twisted change, unnatural- sickening. The darkness took shape into a naked body. The body of a man, facing away from me. The light was brighter, and brighter, shining from the body... until I had to look away. The light started to dim, still bright, but not so blinding. I turned, and the man was facing me... I could not think what to say. A severe coldness, an ice pick in the heart was all I could feel, when I saw the face of the nightmare that stole me and made my mind reel. The body was whited out by light, but the face was intact. It was your face, my love. Your face, every detail, exact. You smiled, at my form, you knew it was me. But I knew that the nightmare I had become was all you could see. You rose, started floating, rising into the air. The light followed you, leaving me in despair. You looked up, breaking contact with me... flying away, far from this thing you made me be. The darkness consumed, I fell to the ground, then all went dark, and silent- no sound. Goodbye, I breathed, and with my last breath I said, “I love you, my nightmare.” And then I was dead.
