wow nice head and hind leg/foot/claw
Id like to see more the scale going on in the body
but there is something really awkward about the neck and body and his forelimbs look just weak...

Yeah it was just kind of a doodle, so I didn't put much thought into it, but since you bring it up, yeah his front legs are a little weak looking. Maybe he walks mostly on his back legs, like a t-rex? Heh. And his neck is weird because I had to scrunch him onto the paper. But I think I may actually like the awkwardness in his neck because I like how long it is.

This was honestly more of an exercise for me in varying line weight then anything else.

ahhhh yes,.. well line weight is good.
draw him again, more practice with line weight!
and I just want to see you develope him
if he walked on two legs like a trex, his body be different, more bird like or he'd keep the way he looks but he'd be more human like... up right... in either case his neck wouldnt be as long

Iguanodon! That's the dinosaur I was thinking of. You know how they have really big back legs and kind of short front legs? But they still walk on all fours.

They can, at least its believed, also perch up on their back legs. That's what my dragon reminds me of.

yes yes.... the fore and hind legs on your dragon look most like that... the Iguanodon... and as soon as I saw the link I recognized him from Eirikr's dino books... but Iguanodon's body is still... mostly butt heavy... with a balancing tail and stubby neck...

think of those toy dipping drinking water birds [link]

Yeah I know that they're mostly butt heavy.

I always draw a skinny stomach. I think I do that to practice rib cages and such.

My poor little awkward dragon. BUt at least I think I was mostly successful in my line weight test.

I hope you dont think Im being too critical of your dragon... I just love having a thought critique... whether about artist technique or character developement... talking/deconstructing/hopefully building

like I said id like to see more of him... developed more..

and yes yes your line weight is good... special in the head neck spines and hind foot... where the most detail is

Oh, not at all.

Its hardly even a finished piece.

I know I probably should start putting more detail in the bodies, but just putting scales on the foot is a big step for me. I usually have a ton of detail in the head and neck but then get lazy.

I posted him because I liked the pose, its different then what I usually do, at least as far as I've noticed. He has some real motion to him where I'm notorious for having my creatures look stiff.

yes... the 3/4ish front view, rather than a side view

Yeah, that's really different for me. I always do profiles to get the whole body in because I was always afraid of foreshortening and having things look funny. But I've been catching up on all my comics lately and, since all comics are foreshortening, I figured "why the hell not?"

I think I did fairly well all things considered (no ref, and about 20 minutes of sketch).
