Description

    Avaryss Drakos, aka Ava Drake

Human (Atheaen)/Half-Demon/Half-Dragon (Abyssal Fang Dragon) female Lvl 2/1/0 Planar/Psionicist-Mind Slayer/Executioner

At the end of the Second Orc Wars, with the death of so many world leaders in the assassinations that preceded, a new crop of kings and queens arose.  Foremost amongst those were the new king and queen of Atheae, Rellenar Zaddistar and Demlane Aragon.  Demlane, as the High Demonhunter of Athena, was also the wielder of Marax the Holy Slayer.  The Godsend, so much more powerful than its wielder, was the real target of most of Demlane’s enemies.  Foremost amongst her hated foes was the Demon God of Death, Orcus.  So when things slowed down and Demlane and her new family settled down into a peaceful life as rulers of the Kingdom, Orcus saw His time to move.  He sent agents to the kingdom, demonic shapeshifters and demonic spirits to possess the innocent and unwary.  In time, they managed to carry out their plot and killed Demlane.  Marax, unable to save her due to the agents’ careful plan to get Demlane separated and shielded from the sword, had little choice but to move on to its next wielder.  No one ever knew the identity of the villains who had managed such a daring assassination, or that one of them was in fact an Abyssal Fang Dragon.

Aesiryss was that dragon, more than just a horror of the Abyss, she was cunning, powerful with dark sorcery, and unbearably beautiful in her many guises.  She stayed behind long enough to ensure the deed was done and the kingdom was in ruins.  King Rellenar, heartbroken with his wife's demise, soon died as well.  None really knew what killed him.  Most claim it was a broken heart; he simply didn't want to live any more.  The truth was somewhat darker than that.

Aesiryss however, didn't carry out that little coup all on her own.  She had help, the help of a powerful Human Necromancer and Demonologist who was equally interested in seeing the House of Zadd fall.  His name was Christos Drakos.  He was in his early forties, handsome, powerful, alluring and confident.  And as proof that the universe has no clue what its doing, the two were immediately smitten with each other.  It wasn't exactly love, nothing that sappy and sentimental.  It was more a mutual respect and desire to exploit the other for fun and profit.

So, Aesiryss had a child, a daughter, half human and half Abyssal Fang Dragon,… basically one part human, one part dragon, and one part demon. The child, however, was born human, or mostly human looking, for Aesiryss stayed in her human guise the entire two years to give birth and hand over her daughter.  Not really being the motherly sort, she left soon after, turning Avaryss over to Christos to raise.

A few dozen years later, the Night of Demons came upon the Kingdom of Carellon.  But the breech in the veil between planes wasn't just made evident in the capitol city and the village of Gryphonmyr.  There were smaller demon incursions all over the globe.  In the high mountains of Equideyea, where the ArchNecromancer Drakos had retired with his daughter, in a place that would later be known as Mons Astrodontis, a huge dragon appeared over a bleak fortress.  The dragon was pale as moonlight and dark as Hell's shadows.  Aesiryss had come to claim her daughter.  And though his heart was black and filled with hate, he doted over his beautiful little horned demon-girl.  Avaryss was only 29, still a young child, impressionable, innocent, and clueless about what was about to happen.  Christos refused to give up his demonic prize, a creature that held so much potential.  And mother was no less insistent.  Despite his power, Aesiryss still prevailed, killing Christos out of sight of the child and returning to tell her lies about how her father had turned on her and how Aesiryss had saved Ava from certain death.

So began Ava's long years of training and service to her mother.  They flew farther north, to the secluded valley of Saint Lucia, where Aesiryss raised her own fortress and again hid her true form from all.  There, the Black Witch of the Selkirks reigned for many years, all but invisible to the world, going out to hunt from time to time, but always leaving her daughter guarded by her own demonic minions and magic spells.  In those years, Aesiryss' demonic master, Orcus was slain by the Seldarine God of Death, Talon.  The great Fang Dragon was on her own, unprotected from other powers within the Abyss that might wish to make sure Orcus' minions were wiped out as well.

When Kiriansalee rose and seized control of Thanatos, she knew she needed allies.  Aesiryss sought out the Shadows, through their minions, the Shadar'kai, and an alliance was established.  Shadar'kai moved into Saint Lucia and took up residence in Ava's home.  They were dark and cruel, hateful and depressing, and they often made inappropriate comments, bullied and attempted to seduce the young half-demon.  When they tried to gang rape her, and she transformed for the first time to fight them off, her mother simply swept the event under the rug, blaming her for being too provocative and not staying in her part of the fortress.  Ava's mind was made up.  The next day, while her mother was gone, she tricked the guards with a careful shapeshift and flew away.

She landed at Mons Astrodontis, hoping to find some clue as to her father's fate.  A ghostly apparition visited her and told of her mother’s treachery and the murder of her father.  She took what little gold she could find there and flew on to the Atheaen port town of Valdosta, to her father's old university, Xenofon.  Within weeks she was accepted and started classes.  Though her magic was dark, Necromantic, there were no judgments about such things at Xenofon like there were at other magic schools.  She learned to control her darker impulses, though she never really learned to follow the rules or show proper respect for her betters.  Rather than pursue a profession as a mage or psionic, she focused on the martial arts, training her quickly growing body to tap all its inner power, including honing her shapeshifting to grant her armor in whatever form.  And though she found she could assume the form and many of the abilities of any creature she could imagine, she still preferred to keep her pale complexion and black horns,… except when they might be dead giveaways.

Since her graduation, she has wandered north again, towards the horse plains of Equideyea, seeking adventure and riches.  Since she discovered in one unfortunate encounter with a Shadar'kai traveler that there is a powerful Black Witch in the Selkirks that is seeking the half-demon Avaryss, she tries to hide her true nature in many disguises, always changing to stay ahead of the detection spells, if there are any.  She has no delusions that her mother doesn't know where she is,… she only hopes one day to be powerful enough to fight her off when she finally does come knocking on her inn door.
