Description Technically, this is foam-core crafting, but it's FOR woodworking.     This device helps you put pencil marks all the way around a wooden dowel, in preparation for going over it by hand with a tech pen or similar india ink tool.

Good for decorating arrows, tabletop gaming measuring pointer/batons, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut out all pieces.
2. Carefully glue to foam core.
* I recommend Elmer's Carpenters Glue "Max" for this project.
3. Cover with flat heavy items.  I recommend at least 1 foot of books.
4. Let dry 2 hours.
5. Cut all the holes out with a craft knife.
6. Cut the pieces out with a craft knife and straight-edge.

7. Glue Base 2 atop Base 1 between the gray stripes.
8. Glue Left and Right sides to base pieces.
9. Glue Top 1 between the sides, at the top.
10. Glue Top 2 to Top 1 and the tops of the side pieces.
11. Let dry 1 hour.

12. Generously apply glue to all seams where two pieces are at right angles.
13. Let dry at least 6 hours more.

----------

TO USE:

Insert a mechanical pencil through the hole in the top.

If needed, mark where the pencil rings need to be, using a ruler.

Insert the dowel to be marked side-to-side.

You can use either use a large rubber band or two smaller ones linked together to help hold the dowel steady.

Place a stick-stopper on the dowel's end.  Turn the dowel so a mark is made that goes all the way around.

You *can* use the jig with a marker but you'll probably get much neater results carefully following the pencil line "by hand" with a pen.
