Description Here is the promised step-by-step look on how I made this.
Like I said there, this is more about the textures and little tips with the lineart. The brush I used is amazing at getting this watercolor feel. As you can see some textures and lineart tweaking make a huge difference!

Brush presets
All these brush presets are for photoshop, CS5 or newer.

You can get the watercolor brush from here: link Browse the page down, let it load and go back up. You should see a brush called "Wet & Wild Watercolor Brush". You can choose to pay something for it but if not, just put 0 there. (but please consider supporting this person. His brushes are amazing) I also recommend to watch this video where the brush is in use.

If you are interested, here is a link to a brush pack where the pencil brush I used is: this. Β  I personally recommend this brush pack. I use it now all the time to sketch and do lineart.

Textures
Like I said, you can easily create a noise texture pattern in photoshop. As for the paper texture, I get all my textures from here . The paper texture I used is this one specifically: www.cgtextures.com/texview.php… You need to register in the site in order to download textures but it is free and I've never get any spam mail.

I hope you found this helpful and maybe learned a trick or two. If you have something to ask, feel free.

Edit: Oh, and feel more than free to show me if you do something with the help of this tutorial.

Edit2: SAI users, take a look at this: fav.me/d7t2aim
This tutorial is the reason I got interested in watercolor brushes in the first place. They had the link to this awesome brush too.

Thank you so much for posting this!

It's absolutely helpful. I'm currently using Sai, but I have ps6. Λ†-Λ† and if you will, do you mind telling me, did you clean the outside at part 8?

You're welcome. Happy to hear you found this helpful.

I did not. I only edit settings from step 5 and onward. Nothing drawing related.

Thank you very much for sharing your method of work!

Seems I need to dig into Photoshop even more, since I haven't knew some things you know already.

It's always so cool to see different methods of working from the artists, but personally, I would so love to see your sketch progress,Β  since THIS part vary a lot among artists~
I always love to see different styles on sketchs

Hello! Absolutely love this tutorial and style! It is amazing! I did have a go at it here . It doesn't look as good as your, but it was my second try at it, so it is just a matter of practice!
Thank you so much for showing this brush, and making a wonderful tutorial Β Β

Unfortunately the lineart brushes are paying so I can't really get them at least for now ><
However I could make the watercolor brush work and thanks to this I discovered how to actually use Photoshop for a drawing. Thanks for the tutorial! and thanks for SAI one too, I may try both

Anika-Nova In reply to Dragonnerd445 [2014-08-06 06:45:51 +0000 UTC]

There are instructions in the folder - the trick is to go to the tool dropdown box, not the brushes one. It will say 'load tool preset' instead of 'load brushes'. I found it tricky to find too >.<Β

I use PSE so it doesn't have that option.

Aha, another layer setting technique I need to try out sometime! That paper texture setting is beautiful too; I have to try that sometime.Β normally I layer mask a whole bunch of colors on top of the lineart and flatten everything before duplicating it doing some layer setting nonsense with both lineart layers D8 But man, I need to save these settings and brushes somehow when I get home :0
I love getting to see process art like this; it's a rare glimpse at how an artist actually makes beautiful things that people enjoy!Β

I'm so glad I got the set to work with my CS6 after a days worth of trying haha
this tutiorial is super helpful and I can't wait to try it out!

The only question I have is what brush do you use for it and what preset are you using, please?
Because mine isn't displaying the bubbles/splotches (like in her ear) yours did in the tutorial, it only seems to
overlap the other colors and the colors don't blend. Thanks for the help once again! <:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TamarinFrog In reply to Wiree [2014-08-03 07:02:59 +0000 UTC]

Glad to hear you got it to work.

Hmm.... I use it exactly like the basic setting is when I choose the brush. I only decrease or increase the size. Notice that the brush is in multiply mode, thus if use it again on an area you have already drawn, it creates darker shade of the same color. I also just poke areas to get those "splotches"

Did you watch the video? He shows just how to use it effectively. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZl0wp…
